Physical Education in elementary school: Important aspects pointed out by the students

Resumo: For the majority of Brazilian adults, remind the School Physical Education, let them remember the traditional sports worked as important content in the classes. As a school teacher, we fell some needs to investigate if this social representation of the adults remains on the students mind. So, this paper aims at investigating what are appreciated contents in the school physical education. The samples were eighty seven, which are students from sixth to ninth grade of elementary school, in the first semester, at private school, located in the east of the São Paulo City. This is a qualitative study, descriptive type. The students answered for the question: What do you think is important in the physical education classes? Why? The answers were registered, written out, analyzed and interpreted. The results showed us that the most important apprenticeship content for the students in this semester was sport, confirming the permanence of sport in the physical education image, interpreted as a strong social representation component. Well-being and physical development had been mentioned few times than sports. From these results, it is possible to reflect on the reasons that the others physical education contents no yet attained the students as the same importance that sports.

From these results, it is possible to reflect on the reasons that the others physical education contents no yet attained the students as the same importance that sports.Para a maioria dos adultos brasileiros quando se pensa nos conteúdos que lhes ensinaram na Educação Física escolar, logo mencionamos os esportes tradicionais trabalhados durante as aulas como conteúdos importantes. Como professores atuantes na escola sentimos a necessidade de pesquisar se esta representação social presente na mente dos adultos ainda permanece para os alunos mais jovens. A partir desta curiosidade, o objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar qual conteúdo da Educação Física escolar era valorizado por 87 (oitenta e sete) alunos do 6º ao 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental, de uma escola privada, localizada na região leste da cidade de São Paulo, no 1º semestre de 2006. A pesquisa é de natureza qualitativa, tipo descritiva e utilizou como instrumentos o registro, transcrição, análise e interpretação das respostas em relação às perguntas “O quê você acha de importante nas aulas de Educação Física? Por quê?” Os resultados alcançados indicaram que a aprendizagem dos esportes foi a unidade de significado predominante entre os alunos pesquisados de todos os períodos, confirmando que o esporte permanece associado à imagem da Educação Física, sendo um forte componente das representações sociais. Tópicos como desenvolvimento físico e bem-estar foram mencionados em número menor do que o esporte.
