The nomination of Quebrada de Humahuaca (Argentina) as a World Heritage site can be seen as a process that culminated in its inscription on UNESCOs World Heritage List in 2003. The documentation submitted shows that there was a commitment to restore and preserve the heritage of a territory where actors converged at different levels and sectors, with diverse interests and in some cases contradictory ones. This process has been studied from various disciplinary fields, and in general, with critical positions on the way that has been brought forward. The analysis of these documents is a source that allows us, first, to deconstruct the chronology of the process; and secondly, to identify key moments where the confluence of these actors, their role and combination changed, as well as the scenarios and issues that were put into play influencing the progress, arrest or reverse of the process. In this regard, this paper focuses on the study of the decision making process that led to the nomination of Quebrada de Humahuaca as a World Heritage Site.
