New reading practices: implications for the behavior of the student-reader

Resumo: This article aims to examine current practices in digital reading and to reflect on its implications on the reader behavior. The research subjects were students of the Faculty of Education, Federal University of Uberlandia in 2010. We developed a structured approach based on qualitative socio-historical research, and adopted the case studies of ethnographic type. Through semi-structured interviews it was possible to collect data and then analyze according to the theories that underline the work based on two conceptual pillars: the conception of man as a social, cultural and historical being postulated by Vygotsky (1999) and historical and sociological analysis of reading practices according to Chartier (1999). The results showed that digital reading changes the modes of reading in any support and therefore can be understood as a tool that promotes the overcoming of man’s limitations in reading.Practices reading have been following developments in technology, so the man needs to truly adapt to new media textual reading does not lose its function which is to inform, provide the assimilation of new knowledge.

Los sujetos eran estudiantes de Educación de la Universidad Federal de Uberlândia, en el año 2010. Hemos desarrollado un enfoque estructurado basado en la investigación socio-histórica cualitativa, y adoptamos la forma de estudios de caso etnográfico. A través de entrevistas semi-estructuradas los estudiantes fueron capaces de recoger datos y analizarlos a la luz de las teorías que sustentan el trabajo, con base en dos pilares conceptuales: la concepción del hombre como ser social, cultural e histórico postulado por Vygotsky (1999)y la análisis histórica y sociológica de las prácticas de lectura, según Chartier (1999). Los resultados demostraron que la lectura digital provoca câmbios en los modos de leer en cualquier soporte o medio, y, por lo tanto, se puede entender como una herramienta que promueve la superación de los límites del hombre en la zona de lectura. Las prácticas de lectura han siguiedo la evolución de la tecnología, por lo tanto, el hombre necesita adaptarse verdaderamente a los nuevos soportes textuales a fin de que la lectura non pierda su función de informar y de proporcionar la asimilación de nuevos conocimientos.Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar práticas de leitura atuais em ambientes digitais e refletir sobre suas implicações no comportamento do leitor. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram alunos de Pedagogia, da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, no ano de 2010. Foi desenvolvido um trabalho estruturado com base na abordagem qualitativa sócio-histórica de pesquisa, e adotada a modalidade estudo de caso do tipo etnográfico. Através de entrevistas semi-estruturadas foi possível recolher os dados e depois analisá-los à luz das teorias que embasam o trabalho, partindo de dois pilares conceituais: a concepção de homem como ser social, cultural e histórico, postulado por Vygotsky (1999) e a análise histórica e sociológica das práticas de leitura, segundo Chartier (1999).
