Affect and mathematics teaching: a pedagogical mediation story in high school

Resumo: This paper is based on a research that sought to identify aspects of a pedagogical practice that can be consideredfacilitators of positive affective approach process between the student and the contents of a specific field ofknowledge: mathematics. For this, the observation of pedagogical practice of a mathematics teacher, in a firstyear class of high school, was made, plus interviews with the teacher and some students. From the collectedmaterial, thematic nuclei were created in order to reproduce all aspects identified in the data that can beinterpreted as affective nature factors and therefore produce positive or negative impacts. The data suggest thatthe relations established between subject (student) and object (mathematics contents) are determined primarilyby the mediation of the teacher, and these relationships are also of affective nature.

Os dados foram coletados através de sessões de observação da prática pedagógica de um professor de matemática, em uma turma de primeiro ano do Ensino Médio, além de entrevistas com o mesmo e com alguns dos alunos. A partir do material coletado, foram criados núcleos temáticos com o intuito de reproduzir os aspectos identificados nos dados que possam ser interpretados como fatores de natureza afetiva e que, portanto, produzem impactos positivos ou negativos nos alunos. Os dados sugerem, fortemente, que as relações que se estabelecem entre sujeito (aluno) e objeto (conteúdos matemáticos) são determinadas basicamente pela mediação do professor, sendo que tais relações são, também, de natureza afetiva.
