The Laboratory for Teaching Mathematics: implications in Teacher Training

Resumo: | The purpose of this work is to make a reflection on the role of the Laboratory for TeachingMathematics in Teacher Training. It analyzes the trainee project of PUC-Campinas with 45 8th grade studentsof a public school after the teacher became aware of the dissatisfaction of the students regarding Mathematicsand difficulties in Algebra. 4 trainees participated. Using the resources and ambient of the Laboratory, distinctactivities of the experiences in the school, like the manipulation of materials and games, were developed. Theproject provided the teachers with an analysis of the practice itself and observation of the process of(re)construction of algebraic concepts and procedures. Many students not only overcame their difficulties, butalso changed their attitude in relation to Mathematics; for the teacher, the project provided an opportunity tosee new methodological possibilities, ways leading to a new practice. The partnership brought to light thepotentialities of the Teaching Laboratory as a fundamental ambient in initial and continued teacher training. |

Analisa um projeto de estágio da PUC-Campinas com 45 alunos de 8ª série de uma escola pública, após o professor ter identificado insatisfação de alunos com relação à Matemática e dificuldades em Álgebra. Contou-se com a atuação de quatro estagiários. Utilizando os recursos e o ambiente do Laboratório, desenvolveram-se atividades distintas das vivenciadas na escola, como manipulação de materiais e jogos. O projeto propiciou aos licenciandos a análise da própria prática e a observação do processo de (re)construção de conceitos e de procedimentos algébricos. Muitos alunos não somente venceram suas dificuldades, mas mudaram sua atitude em relação à Matemática; para o professor o projeto permitiu visualizar novas possibilidades metodológicas, caminhos para uma nova práxis.
