Resumo: | This article is part of a research whose goal was to analyze theimportance of the contents of financial mathematics for people’s lives by showingthe need to take hold of the meanings of the respective concepts in order to takedecisions before the easy credit provided by business and finance dealers. Somehistorical elements are presented so that one may understand the origin of financial mathematics. In addition, some concepts of financial mathematics arediscussed, by situating them into the present time. The presented content is partof the discussions about the need of financial education in basic education sothat students may visualize mathematics in a contextualized way. |

Este artigo faz parte de uma pesquisa que teve como objetivo analisar a importância dos conteúdos de matemática financeira para a vida das pessoas, mostrando a necessidade de apropriar-se dos significados dos respectivos conceitos para a tomada de decisões diante das facilidades de crédito proporcionadas pelo comércio e por financeiras. Apresentam-se alguns elementos históricos, a fim de que se possa compreender a origem da matemática financeira. Além disso, faz-se uma discussão sobre alguns conceitos da matemática financeira, situando-os na atualidade.
