From elitization to popularization: historical course of the Universitary School of UFMA (1968-2006)

Resumo: The place of the University School of the Federal University of Maranhão is debated in the context of educational expansion in São Luís, analyzing conditions that moved polarizations in its trajectory: elitization / popularization. It is evaluated to what extent the tensions between the culture imposed by the school, as a secondary education institution, and a local / neighborhood culture manifested in singular practices, may have influenced the role, projection and consolidation of Colun after being restructured as an Application School at São Luís periphery. Information from local newspapers, laws, school files and interviews were used, which were crossed, analyzed and interpreted in the light of the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Cultural History. It is concluded that the confrontation between cultures (school and local) contributed to spread high school by popularizing its access, permanence and training.

Se utilizan informaciones de periódicos locales, leyes, archivo escolar y entrevistas, que fueron cruzadas, analisadas e interpretadas segundo los principios teórico-metodológicos de la Historia Cultural. Se concluye que el embate entre culturas (escolar/local) contribuyeron para disseminar la enseñanza media al popularizarse su acceso, permanencia y formación.Discute-se o lugar do Colégio Universitário da Universidade Federal do Maranhão no contexto de expansão educacional em São Luís, analisando-se condicionantes que movimentaram polarizações na sua trajetória: elitização/popularização. Avalia-se em que medida as tensões entre a cultura imposta via Colégio, como instituição de ensino secundário, e uma cultura local/bairro manifesta em práticas singulares, podem ter influenciado no papel, projeção e consolidação do Colun depois de reestruturado como Colégio de Aplicação na periferia são-luisense. Utilizam-se informações garimpadas em jornais locais, leis, arquivo escolar e entrevistas, que foram cruzadas, analisadas e interpretadas à luz dos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da História Cultural.
