Intersexuality and physical education: analysis of knowledge and experiences of higher education teachers

Resumo: Facing invisibility, silencing and discrimination, intersex people have biological markers that touch both genders. This study sought to analyze the perception of teachers of the Physical Education course to establish the first approaches to the subject from the perspective of this area of knowledge. The findings suggest that many of the stigmatizing situations found within heteronormative society are reverberated and affirmed by situations experienced by teachers in their educational practices. Approximately 50% believe it is pertinent to discuss issues of gender and intersexuality in the physical education teacher training curriculum. On the other hand, the same percentage considers that the name/sex of registration should be a decisive factor for normative situations in society, such as the use of bathrooms.

Este estudio analizó la percepción de los docentes del curso de Educación Física para establecer los primeros acercamientos al tema desde la perspectiva de esta área de conocimiento. Los hallazgos sugieren que muchas de las situaciones estigmatizantes que se encuentran dentro de la sociedad heteronormativa son reverberadas y afirmadas por situaciones vividas por los docentes en sus prácticas. El 50% de los profesores cree que es pertinente discutir el tema en la formación de educación física. Sin embargo, el mismo porcentaje considera que el nombre/género registrado debe ser un factor decisivo, por ejemplo, para el uso de baños.Enfrentando invisibilidade, silenciamento e discriminação, pessoas intersexuais possuem marcadores biológicos que tangenciam ambos os sexos. O presente estudo buscou analisar a percepção de docentes do curso de Educação Física para estabelecer as primeiras aproximações do assunto sobre a ótica dessa área de conhecimento. Os achados sugerem que muitas das situações estigmatizantes encontradas no seio da sociedade heteronormativa são reverberadas e afirmadas por situações vivenciadas pelos docentes em suas práticas educativas. Aproximadamente 50% acreditam ser pertinente discutir questões de gênero e intersexualidade no currículo da formação do professor de educação física.
