The value of digital storytelling: Promoting learning for the elderly through technology

Resumo: Digital storytelling has already been widely used in education, and teachers are using it as a tool to assist in the educational process. Digital storytelling can be used as a proposal for activities to enhance the use of Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) to contribute to the learning process. The objective of this research was to apply a methodology for using digital resources to create stories with aged people with little or no experience with digital technology. To do this, participants were taught techniques to create a good story, which were later recorded and edited in video editing software. The work developed was found to be effective and will enable new projects to be developed with the aged population with little or no literacy.

Las narrativas digitales pueden utilizarse como propuesta de actividades para intensificar el uso de las Tecnologías Digitales de Información y Comunicación (TDIC) con el fin de contribuir al proceso de aprendizaje. El objetivo de esta investigación fue aplicar una metodología de uso de recursos digitales para la creación de historias, con personas mayores con poca o ninguna experiencia con la tecnología digital. Para ello, se enseñó a los participantes técnicas sobre cómo crear una buena historia, que posteriormente fueron grabadas y editadas en un software de edición de vídeo. El trabajo desarrollado ha demostrado ser eficaz y permitirá que se desarrollen nuevos proyectos con la población anciana con poca o ninguna alfabetización.As narrativas digitais já têm sido muito utilizadas na educação e professores estão usando as narrativas digitais como uma ferramenta para auxiliar no processo educacional. As narrativas digitais podem ser utilizadas como proposta de atividades para intensificar o uso das Tecnologias Digitais de Informação e Comunicação (TDIC), a fim de contribuir com o processo de aprendizagem. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi aplicar uma metodologia de utilização de recursos digitais para criação de histórias, com idosos com pouca ou nenhuma experiência com tecnologia digital. Para isso, foi ensinado aos participantes técnicas de como criar uma boa história, que posteriormente foram gravadas e editadas num software de edição de vídeo.
