Resumo: Objective: to trace the demographic and health socioeconomic profile of those entering the nursing course at a public higher education institution. Method: cross-sectional, descriptive, exploratory, quantitative study. The methodological procedures took place in two moments: in the first moment the data collection was made through the questionnaire, in the second moment the vaccine card was analyzed, followed by the measurement of the anthropometric measures, in order to collect information that compose the Index of Body Mass. Results: the profile of the freshman in the nursing course is, mostly, young adolescents, female, aged between 17 and 20 years, single, Christians, coming from the capital, with their own home and living with family members. They have no work or paid occupation. They have outdated vaccination cards and the body mass index classified as normal, even if they are not practicing physical activity. Conclusion: this research provided relevant information for teaching management, in order to know the profile of students, allowing the creation of educational measures and policies that help students in their training.

Método: estudio transversal, descriptivo, exploratorio, cuantitativo. Los procedimientos metodológicos se llevaron a cabo en dos momentos: en el primer momento la recolección de datos se realizó a través del cuestionario, en el segundo momento se analizó la tarjeta de vacuna, seguido de la medición de las medidas antropométricas, con el fin de recopilar información que componga el Índice de Masa corporal. Resultados: el perfil del estudiante de primer año en el curso de enfermería es, en su mayoría, adolescentes jóvenes, mujeres, entre 17 y 20 años, solteros, cristianos, que vienen de la capital, con su propio hogar y viven con miembros de la familia. No tienen trabajo u ocupación remunerada. Tienen tarjetas de vacunación obsoletas y el índice de masa corporal clasificado como normal, incluso si no están practicando actividad física. Conclusión: esta investigación proporcionó información relevante para la gestión de la enseñanza, con el fin de conocer el perfil de los estudiantes, permitiendo la creación de medidas y políticas educativas que ayuden a los estudiantes en su formación.Objetivo: traçar o perfil socioeconômico demográfico e sanitário de ingressantes do curso de enfermagem de uma instituição de ensino superior pública. Método: estudo transversal, descritivo, exploratório, de natureza quantitativa. Os procedimentos metodológicos se deram em dois momentos: no primeiro momento foi feita a coleta dos dados socioeconômico e demográfico, por meio do questionário, no segundo momento foi analisado o cartão de vacina, seguida da mensuração das medidas antropométricas, a fim de coletar informações que componham o Índice de Massa Corpórea (IMC). Resultados:  o perfil do ingressante no curso de enfermagem é, em sua maioria, do sexo feminino adolescentes jovens, do sexo feminino, na faixa etária entre 17 e 20 anos, solteiros, cristãos, procedentes da capital, com moradia própria e que residem com familiares. Não possuem trabalho ou ocupação remunerada. Apresentam cartão de vacinação desatualizados e o índice de massa corpórea classificado em sua maioria como normal, mesmo não sendo praticantes de atividade física.
