Epistemological implications in pedagogical practice: A study with Basic Education teachers

Resumo: This study presents the results of research aimed at identifying the epistemological conceptions embedded in the pedagogical practice of a group of basic education teachers from a public school located in the city of Santa Maria, RS. The results were obtained through a research instrument (questionnaire) based on the ideas of Porlán, composed of closed-ended Likert scale items. Data analysis was conducted quantitatively using the software "Microsoft Excel" version 2010 and "Statistical Package for Social Sciences" (SPSS) version 22. The results revealed that the empiricist-inductivist conception still prevails among the teachers in basic education at the surveyed school, reaffirming the need for the inclusion of in-depth studies on epistemology in initial and continuing teacher education programs.

Los resultados fueron obtenidos a través de un instrumento de investigación (cuestionario) basado en las ideas de Porlán, compuesto por ítems cerrados en una escala de Likert. El análisis de datos se realizó de manera cuantitativa utilizando el software "Microsoft Excel" versión 2010 y "Statistical Package for Social Sciences" (SPSS) versión 22. Los resultados revelaron que la concepción empirista-inductivista todavía predomina entre los docentes de educación básica en la escuela encuestada, reafirmando la necesidad de incluir estudios profundos sobre epistemología en los programas de formación inicial y continua de docentes.O presente trabalho apresenta resultados de uma pesquisa, cujo objetivo é identificar as concepções epistemológicas que se encontram incorporadas à prática pedagógica de um grupo de professores da educação básica de uma escola pública, localizada na cidade de Santa Maria, RS. Os resultados foram obtidos por meio de um instrumento de pesquisa (questionário) baseado nas ideias de Porlán, composto por itens fechados em escala Likert.  A análise dos dados foi realizada quantitativamente com o auxílio dos softwares “Microsoft Excel” versão 2010 e “Statistical Package for Social Sciences” (SPSS) versão 22.
