The teaching of the origin of life as a classroom discussion object: 2010 to 2020

Resumo: | When confronting notions linked to religions and myths, the teaching of the origin of life historically provokes discussions when approached, both in Basic and Higher Education. Considering that the organization of Science teaching is subject to forces of economic, political and social interests, this study aimed to carry out a review of the publications that address it. Here we analyze the distribution in the national territory of these publications, along with their years of publication, authors, titles, institutions, and level of education. We also categorize and analyze the discussions involved in the teaching of this topic. For this, we used a non-integrative bibliographic review through the Google Scholar platform, where 25 articles were selected using the keywords “The teaching of the origin of life”, “The origin of life'”, and “The origin of life in education”, in time frame from 2010 to 2020. We identified that there is still a lack of agreement between the authors as to the best way to approach this topic in the classroom. However, the studies analyzed are unanimous on the importance of teaching the origin of life in a way that respects all beliefs and opinions. In addition, most studies converge on the difficulties: I) conflict between empirical information and scientific explanations; II) the socioeconomic context; III) misunderstanding of the epistemic nature of science; IV) conceptual confusion with the biological theories; V) training and teaching approach problems over the topic; VI) elaboration of pedagogical strategies. This study provides insights into the current state of the debate around the teaching of the origin of life in Brazil. |

Considerando que la organización de la enseñanza de las Ciencias está sujeta a fuerzas de intereses económicos, políticos y sociales, este estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar una revisión de las publicaciones que la abordan. Aquí analizamos la distribución en el territorio nacional de estas publicaciones, junto con sus años de publicación, autores, títulos, instituciones y nivel de educación. También categorizamos y analizamos las discusiones involucradas en la enseñanza de este tema. Para ello se utilizó una revisión bibliográfica no integradora a través de la plataforma Google Scholar, donde se seleccionaron 25 artículos utilizando las palabras clave “La enseñanza del origen de la vida”, “El origen de la vida”, y “El origen de la vida en la educación”, en el marco temporal de 2010 a 2020. Identificamos que aún existe una falta de acuerdo entre los autores sobre la mejor manera de abordar este tema en el aula. Sin embargo, los estudios analizados son unánimes en la importancia de enseñar el origen de la vida respetando todas las creencias y opiniones. Además, la mayoría de los estudios convergen en las dificultades: I) conflicto entre información empírica y explicaciones científicas; II) el contexto socioeconómico; III) incomprensión de la naturaleza epistémica de la ciencia; IV) confusión conceptual con las teorías biológicas; V) problemas de formación y abordaje didáctico de la materia; VI) elaboración de estrategias pedagógicas. Este estudio proporciona información sobre el estado actual del debate en torno a la enseñanza del origen de la vida en Brasil.Ao confrontar noções ligadas a religiões e mitos o ensino da origem da vida historicamente provoca discussões ao ser abordado, tanto na Educação Básica quanto Superior. Identificamos que ainda há uma falta de acordo entre os autores, quanto à melhor maneira de abordar este tema na sala de aula. No entanto, os estudos analisados são unânimes quanto à importância de ensinar a origem da vida de uma forma que respeite todas as crenças e opiniões. Além disso, a maioria dos trabalhos convergem nas dificuldades: I) conflito entre as informações empíricas e as explicações científicas; II) contexto socioeconômico; III) incompreensão da natureza epistêmica da ciência; IV) confusão conceitual com as teorias biológicas; V) problemas de formação e abordagem docente com relação ao tema; VI) elaboração de estratégias pedagógicas.
