Early childhood professionals knowledge on accident prevention and first aid in the school

Resumo: This study aimed to identify knowledge and experiences of early childhood education professionals concerning first aid and accident prevention in the school environment, in private primary schools in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. This study used an exploratory approach, quanti-qualitative design, that was done in two private schools. Data collection was performed through interviews with 11 early childhood professionals, using a semi-structured script and the application of a questionnaire on specific knowledge about first aid, before and after conducting an educational action with participants. The study observed insufficient knowledge by professionals on this topic, insecurity in dealing with accident situations at the school and the lack of formal training. Early childhood education professionals presented weaknesses related to knowledge of first aid and accident prevention in the school environment. It is hoped that this study can encourage a new approach on the subject, offering subsidies for new interventions.

Estudio piloto, enfoque exploratorio, cuantitativo y cualitativo, realizado en dos escuelas privadas de educación infantil. La recopilación de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas con 11 profesionales de la primera infancia, utilizando un guión semiestructurado y la aplicación de un cuestionario sobre conocimientos específicos de primeros auxilios, antes y después de llevar a cabo una acción educativa con los participantes. El estudio mostró el conocimiento insuficiente de los profesionales sobre este tema, la inseguridad en el manejo de situaciones de accidentes en el entorno escolar y la falta de capacitación formal sobre el tema. Los profesionales de educación infantil presentaron debilidades relacionadas con el conocimiento de primeros auxilios y prevención de accidentes en el ámbito escolar. Se espera que este estudio pueda alentar una nueva mirada sobre el tema, ofreciendo subsidios para nuevas intervenciones.Esse estudo teve o objetivo de identificar conhecimentos e experiências de profissionais da educação infantil sobre primeiros socorros e prevenção de acidentes em instituições privadas de educação infantil de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Trata-se de um estudo piloto, de abordagem exploratória, quanti-qualitativa, realizada em duas escolas privadas de educação infantil. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevista com 11 profissionais da educação infantil, utilizando roteiro semiestruturado e aplicação de um questionário sobre conhecimentos específicos em primeiros socorros, antes e após a realização de ação educativa com os participantes. O estudo permitiu evidenciar a insuficiência de conhecimento dos profissionais sobre esse tema, insegurança em lidar com situações de acidentes no ambiente escolar e falta de treinamento formal sobre o assunto. Verificou-se que os profissionais da educação infantil apresentaram fragilidades relacionadas ao conhecimento em primeiros socorros e prevenção de acidentes no ambiente escolar.
