Netflix as a digital and audiovisual tool in approaching gender, race and racism in the Hollywood series and the Most Beautiful Thing

Resumo: The article discusses the representation of women in society in the first half of the 20th century in the Hollywood and Coisa Mais Linda series, broadcast over the internet on the Netflix streaming channel, set respectively in Los Angeles (USA) in the 1940s and Rio de Janeiro (BRA) in the 1950s-60s. The article aims to discuss gender, race and racism violence, using as methodology the analysis of productions from streaming channels that address topics that the mainstream media considers taboo. The role of the internet as a technology that assists in the dissemination of the possibilities for discussing a range of topics that would otherwise not be possible is indisputable. The woman is represented in the series of varied prisms, she is white, black, poor, rich. However, they have something in common: they are women and therefore suffer the same violence, both physical and symbolic. Gender and race violence are latent in the series. Discarding the concept of “truth”, the content of the works was used to talk about the foundations of colonialism and patriarchy (women as the property of men). The ideology that the woman belongs to the man supports this man's supposed right to decide whether the woman lives or dies when she no longer wants to live with him. Netflix's performance has enabled the discussion of diversity and individual rights in open dialogue with the general public. It is hoped that the article will contribute to broadening the discussion on gender and race equity in the educational and social field.

UU.) En los años 40 y en Rio de Janeiro (BRA) en las décadas de 1950 y 1960. El artículo tiene como objetivo discutir la violencia de género, raza y racismo, utilizando como metodología el análisis de producciones de canales de streaming que abordan temas que los grandes medios de comunicación consideran tabú. Es indiscutible el papel de Internet como tecnología que ayuda a difundir las posibilidades de debatir una variedad de temas que de otro modo no serían posibles. La mujer está representada en la serie de prismas variados, es blanca, negra, pobre, rica. Sin embargo, tienen algo en común: son mujeres y por tanto sufren la misma violencia, tanto física como simbólica. La violencia de género y raza está latente en la serie. Descartando el concepto de “verdad”, el contenido de las obras se utilizó para hablar de los fundamentos del colonialismo y el patriarcado (la mujer como propiedad de los hombres). La ideología de que la mujer pertenece al hombre apoya el supuesto derecho de este hombre a decidir si la mujer vive o muere cuando ya no quiere vivir con él. La actuación de Netflix ha permitido la discusión de la diversidad y los derechos individuales en un diálogo abierto con el público en general. Se espera que el artículo contribuya a ampliar la discusión sobre la equidad de género y raza en el campo educativo y social.O artigo discute a representação da mulher na sociedade na primeira metade do século XX nas séries Hollywood e Coisa Mais Linda, transmitidas pela internet no canal de streaming Netflix, ambientadas respectivamente, em Los Angeles (USA) nos anos 1940 e Rio de Janeiro (BRA) nos anos de 1950-60. O artigo objetiva discutir violência de gênero, de raça e de racismo, utilizando como metodologia a análise de produções dos canais de streaming que abordam temas que a grande mídia considera tabu. É indiscutível o papel da internet como tecnologia que auxilia na difusão das possibilidades de discussão de uma gama de temas que de outra forma não seria possível. Contudo, têm algo em comum: são mulheres e por isso, sofrem as mesmas violências, tanto físicas quanto simbólicas. A violência de gênero e de raça é latente nas séries.
