Performance of the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpreter translator in higher education: implications in the inclusive education discipline

Resumo: This case study aims to present an experience of acting as Interpreter Translator of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and Portuguese Language (TILSP) during the Special and Inclusive Education discipline in a class of Letters - Degree in Libras / Portuguese as a Second Language, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), attended by 15 deaf students. It was noticed the lack of prior knowledge of these students about the themes of the Inclusive Education area that do not include deaf education, as it is not part of the reality experienced by them and an initial lack of interest towards the discipline itself. With the task of translating and interpreting the didactic-pedagogical activities developed in educational institutions, in order to enable access to knowledge of curricular contents, the TILSP professional has the implication of acting not only as a linguistic mediator between deaf people and Libras non-users hearing people, but also be an active participant in the teaching-learning process of the deaf student, being a collaborator of the teacher responsible for the discipline. Given what the deaf students demonstrated at the beginning and end of the semester regarding the learning of curriculum related to the discipline of Inclusive Special Education and considering the role of TILSP as a linguistic mediator and educational participant, it was found that the students could effectively have the appropriate accessibility to the subject. proposed knowledge in this reported context.

Se observó la falta de conocimiento previo de estos estudiantes sobre los temas del área de Educación Inclusiva que no incluyen la educación para sordos, ya que no es parte de la realidad experimentada por ellos y una falta inicial de interés hacia la disciplina misma. Con la tarea de traducir e interpretar las actividades didáctico-pedagógicas desarrolladas en las instituciones educativas, para permitir el acceso al conocimiento de los contenidos curriculares, el profesional de TILSP tiene la implicación de actuar no solo como un mediador lingüístico entre los sordos y oyentes no usuarios de la Libras, pero también ser un participante activo en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del estudiante sordo, siendo colaborador del maestro responsable de la disciplina. Dado lo que los estudiantes sordos demostraron al principio y al final del semestre con respecto al aprendizaje del currículo de los contenidos curriculares relacionados con la disciplina de Educación Especial Inclusiva y considerando el papel de TILSP como mediador lingüístico y participante educativo, se descubrió que los estudiantes podían tener efectivamente la accesibilidad adecuada a el conocimiento propuesto en este contexto informado.Este estudo de caso objetiva apresentar uma experiência de atuação como Tradutor Intérprete de Libras e Língua Portuguesa (TILSP) durante a disciplina de Educação Especial em uma Perspectiva Inclusiva em uma turma do curso de Letras – Licenciatura em Libras/Língua Portuguesa como Segunda Língua, ministrada na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), com a presença de 15 estudantes surdos e 22 ouvintes. Percebeu-se a lacuna de conhecimento prévio destes discentes acerca das temáticas da área de Educação Inclusiva que não contemplam a educação de surdos, por não fazer parte da realidade vivenciada por eles e um desinteresse inicial para com a disciplina em si. Com a atribuição de traduzir e interpretar as atividades didático-pedagógicas desenvolvidas nas instituições de ensino, de forma a viabilizar o acesso ao conhecimento dos conteúdos curriculares, o profissional TILSP tem a implicação de atuar não somente como um mediador linguístico entre surdos e ouvintes não usuários da Libras, mas também ser um partícipe ativo no processo de ensino-aprendizagem do aluno surdo, sendo um colaborador do docente responsável pela disciplina.
