Resumo: Objectives: to analyze the scientific evidence regarding communication between people with sickle cell anemia and health care professionals. Methodology: this is an integrative review whose search for primary studies was conducted in PubMed, LILACS, Embase and CINAHL databases. Results: pain, lack of knowledge about the disease itself, racial prejudice, and professional perception that people with sickle-cell disease are addicted to medications make communication among those involved difficult. On the other hand, adequate communication with the professional, evidence-based care, and equitable assistance contribute to a lower rate of hospitalization and readmission of people with sickle cell disease. People with higher education level are better able to understand the content of communication with the professional. Conclusion: adequate communication enables better interaction between health professionals and people with sickle cell anemia and provides a favorable environment for knowledge exchange and integral assistance, valuing individuals and meeting their needs.

Research, Society and Development2022-03-24info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2767310.33448/rsd-v11i4.27673Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 4; e47611427673Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 4; e47611427673Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 4; e476114276732525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/27673/24113Copyright (c) 2022 Fabiana Rodrigues Lima; Débora de Oliveira Ferreira; Larissa Cândido Melo; Verônica Borges Kappel; Mariana Torreglosa Ruiz; Maria Beatriz Guimarães Raponi; Bethania Ferreira Goularthttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLima, Fabiana Rodrigues Ferreira, Débora de OliveiraMelo, Larissa Cândido Kappel, Verônica Borges Ruiz, Mariana TorreglosaRaponi, Maria Beatriz Guimarães Goulart, Bethania Ferreira 2022-03-27T17:17:09Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/27673Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:45:19.241858Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
