Astronomy teaching and meaningful Learning: a look at integrated technical teaching

Resumo: This research consists of a case study that aimed to investigate the occurrence of meaningful learning in a group formed by 40 students of integrated technical education at the Federal Institute of Minas Gerais, São João Evangelista, who participated in a course on basic concepts of astronomy. The theoretical framework adopted for the research was David Ausubel's theory of meaningful learning and the main instrument for data collection was the questionnaire, applied as pre and post-test. The data obtained were submitted to qualitative and quantitative analyses, obtaining, as results, confirmation of the occurrence of meaningful learning through the application of the Student’s t-test. It was concluded that this type of course can be a viable alternative for the teaching of astronomy in this institution and that the reference material is adequate, but requires adjustments by the teacher, in order to achieve the proposed objectives.

El marco teórico adoptado para la investigación fue la teoría del aprendizaje significativo de David Ausubel y el principal instrumento para la recolección de datos fue el cuestionario, aplicado como pre y post-test. Los datos obtenidos fueron sometidos a análisis cualitativos y cuantitativos, obteniendo como resultados la confirmación de la ocurrencia de aprendizajes significativos mediante la aplicación de la prueba t de Student. Se concluyó que este tipo de cursos puede ser una alternativa viable para la enseñanza de la astronomía en esta institución y que el material de referencia es adecuado, pero requiere ajustes por parte del docente, para lograr los objetivos propuestos.Esta pesquisa consiste em um estudo de caso que teve como objetivo investigar a ocorrência de aprendizagem significativa em um grupo formado por 40 alunos do ensino técnico integrado do Instituto Federal de Minas Gerais, São João Evangelista, que participaram de um curso sobre conceitos básicos de astronomia. O referencial teórico adotado para a pesquisa foi a teoria da aprendizagem significativa de David Ausubel e o principal instrumento de coleta de dados foi o questionário, aplicado como pré e pós-teste. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos às análises qualitativa e quantitativa obtendo-se, como resultados, a confirmação da ocorrência de aprendizagem significativa por meio da aplicação do teste t de Student.
