Resumo: This study reports on workshops developed with students from the early years of elementary school, from a public school located in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The objective was to explore the potential of music that would allow discussion and the construction of socio-scientific knowledge, in a playful and contextualized way. A participant research was carried out, involving students from the school. The theme of the workshops, “Washing hands”, was selected, considering the problems identified in the local reality marked by recurrent diseases. From the contextualization carried out by means of a song lyric, in the workshops, the involvement, the participation of the students, the stimulus to debate and questioning, as well as the development of critical sense was noticeable thus characterizing the assumptions of a teaching in Science, Technology and Society (STS).

El objetivo era explorar el potencial de la música que permitiría la discusión y la construcción del conocimiento socio científico, de una manera lúdica y contextualizada. El trabajo se desarrolló en una clase de cuarto año de escolaridad. Se llevó a cabo una investigación participante que involucró a los estudiantes de la escuela. Se seleccionó el tema de los talleres, “Lavarse las manos”, considerando los problemas identificados en la realidad local marcados por enfermedades recurrentes. Desde la contextualización llevada a cabo mediante una letra de canción, en los talleres, se notó la participación, la participación de los estudiantes, el estímulo para debatir y cuestionar, así como el desarrollo del sentido crítico., caracterizando así los supuestos de la enseñanza en Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (CTS).Este estudo apresenta um relato de oficinas desenvolvidas com alunos dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental, de uma escola pública localizada no município de Duque de Caxias, no Estado do Rio de Janeiro. O objetivo era explorar o potencial de músicas que permitissem a discussão e a construção do conhecimento sociocientífico, de forma lúdica e contextualizada. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em uma turma de quarto ano de escolaridade. Foi realizada uma pesquisa participante, envolvendo os alunos da escola. O tema das oficinas, “Lavar as mãos”, foi selecionado, considerando os problemas identificados na realidade local marcada por doenças recorrentes.
