The relevance of Geographic Information Systems (SIGs) in Professional and Technological Education (EPT): the contribution of Geography to the consolidation of this knowledge

Resumo: The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are products of technological advances that society has produced throughout human history, mainly from the middle of the 20th century, results mainly from the creation of computers and their constant modernization. The purpose of this article is, therefore, to encourage the use of these information systems as a pedagogical resource in the process of teaching and learning Geography, especially in Vocational and Technological Education (EPT). The use of computational tools has been progressively important in solving the socio-spatial problems that afflict society, collaborating with urban planning and the environmental management of natural resources. Geography is one of the sciences that best use this knowledge, mainly in the teaching of geographic contents. It is also defended in this research the use of these technological tools in the resolution of the problems arising from wrong planning by the public managers. In addition, they can also be used for suggestions for improving geographic space. The article has a bibliographic character working with authors who deal with the characterization of GIS in several aspects, such as conceptualization, structure and use. SIGs are a set of programs that can, if used and methodologically well structured, contribute to improving the quality of Geography teaching, especially at EPT.

El propósito de este artículo es, por tanto, fomentar el uso de estos sistemas de información como recurso pedagógico en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje de la Geografía, especialmente en la Educación Profesional y Tecnológica (EPT). El uso de herramientas computacionales ha sido cada vez más importante en la solución de los problemas socioespaciales que afligen a la sociedad, colaborando con la planificación urbana y la gestión ambiental de los recursos naturales. La geografía es una de las ciencias que mejor utiliza este conocimiento, principalmente en la enseñanza de contenidos geográficos. También se defiende en esta investigación el uso de estas herramientas tecnológicas en la resolución de los problemas derivados de una mala planificación por parte de los gestores públicos. Además, también se pueden utilizar como sugerencias para mejorar el espacio geográfico. El artículo tiene carácter bibliográfico trabajando con autores que abordan la caracterización de los SIG en varios aspectos, como conceptualización, estructura y uso. Los SIG son un conjunto de programas que, si se utilizan y están bien estructurados metodológicamente, pueden contribuir a mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza de la geografía, especialmente en el EPT.Os Sistemas de Informações Geográficas (SIGs) são produtos dos avanços tecnológicos que a sociedade produz ao longo da história humana, principalmente a partir de meados do século XX, resultados principalmente da criação dos computadores e de sua constante modernização. O objetivo desse artigo é, portanto, incentivar o uso desses sistemas informacionais como recurso pedagógico no processo de ensino e aprendizagem da Geografia sobretudo na Educação Profissional e Tecnológica (EPT). A utilização de ferramentas computacionais têm sido progressivamente importantes na solução dos problemas socioespaciais que afligem a sociedade, colaborando com o planejamento urbano e com a gestão ambiental dos recursos naturais. A Geografia é uma das ciências que melhor se apropriam desse conhecimento, principalmente no ensino dos conteúdos geográficos. Defende-se também nesse estudo o emprego dessas ferramentas tecnológicas na resolução dos problemas oriundos de planejamentos equivocados por parte dos gestores públicos. Além disso, também podem ser usadas para sugestões de melhoria do espaço geográfico. O artigo tem caráter bibliográfico trabalhando com autores que tratem da caracterização dos SIGs sob vários aspectos, como a conceituação, estrutura e utilização.
