Online workshop as a telehealth modality: An experience with college students with academic performance anxiety

Resumo: The study aims to describe a telehealth program to coping COVID-19 pandemic, regarding to enhance social skills repertoire of college students with anxiety of performance. Participants were 24 college students from an university of State of São Paulo. Measures pre and pos-test were collected by an online questionnaire that investigate sociodemographic data, academic engagement, anxiety of performance, social skills and academic performance. The project was composed by eight weekly group meetings. Seven groups composed of three to four participants were organized. The eight meetings aimed to strengthening the skills of discrimination of physical indicators, behavioral and academic contexts related to performance anxiety; alternative behaviors to procrastination; problem-solving skills; Social Communication Skill applied to the academic context; Assertiveness Social Skill applied to the academic context; relaxation training; diaphragmatic breathing training; stimulus control and seminar presentation. As contributions of this study, the following stand out: a) the description of evaluation instruments, evaluation stages and processes involved in the dissemination of the program; b) presentation of all the topics covered in the telehealth modality; c) description of the adaptation of behavioral techniques to difficulties related to the academic context; d) the presentation of resources for the telehealth modality.

Veinticuatro estudiantes de una universidad del estado de São Paulo participaron en el proyecto. Las evaluaciones previas y posteriores a la intervención se realizaron mediante la aplicación de cuestionarios en línea que investigaron datos sociodemográficos, implicación en actividades académicas, indicadores de ansiedad por el rendimiento académico, las habilidades sociales y el rendimiento académico. Se organizaron siete grupos formados por tres o cuatro participantes. El proyecto contó con ocho reuniones grupales semanales, que tuvieron como objetivo fortalecer las habilidades de discriminación de los indicadores físicos, conductuales y académicos relacionados con la ansiedad por el desempeño; comportamientos de estudio alternativos a la procrastinación; capacidad de resolución de problemas; Habilidades Sociales de Comunicación aplicadas al contexto académico; Habilidades Sociales de Asertividad aplicadas al contexto académico; entrenamiento de relajación; entrenamiento de respiración diafragmática; control de estímulos y presentación de seminarios. Las siguientes contribuciones incluyen: a) la descripción de los instrumentos de evaluación, los pasos de evaluación y los procesos involucrados en la difusión del Taller; b) presentación de todos los temas abordados en la modalidad de tele salud; c) la descripción de la adaptación de las técnicas conductuales a las dificultades relacionadas con el contexto académico; d) la presentación de recursos para la modalidad de tele salud.O presente estudo tem por objetivo apresentar um relato de um projeto de telessaúde, para o enfrentamento da pandemia da COVID-19, voltado ao fortalecimento de habilidades sociais de universitários com indicadores de ansiedade de desempenho. Participaram do projeto 24 estudantes de uma universidade do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Foram conduzidas avaliações pré e pós-intervenção, por meio da aplicação de questionários online que investigaram dados sociodemográficos, engajamento em atividades acadêmicas, indicadores de ansiedade de desempenho acadêmico, habilidades sociais e desempenho acadêmico. O projeto contou com oito encontros semanais em grupo. Foram organizados sete grupos compostos por três a quatro participantes. Os oito encontros foram planejados visando o fortalecimento das habilidades de discriminação dos indicadores físicos, comportamentais e contextos acadêmicos relacionados à ansiedade de desempenho; comportamentos de estudo alternativos à procrastinação; habilidade de resolução de problemas; Habilidade Social de Comunicação aplicada ao contexto acadêmico; Habilidade Social de Assertividade aplicada ao contexto acadêmico; treino de relaxamento; treino de respiração diafragmática; controle de estímulos e apresentação de seminários.
