Strategic people management: study of well-being at work in a furniture and electronics retail company

Resumo: In contemporary times, “well-being at work” has been one of the most recurrent concerns of organizational psychology and people management professionals. The present work aims to analyze the level of “well-being at work” of the employees of a retailer of furniture and electronics, in a complementary way, aiming to develop proposals for intervention and improvement for the investigated company. For this purpose, we applied the Well-Being at Work Inventory (WBWI-13) to 11 employees of the company investigated. Using multilevel research and comprising the application of questionnaires and systematic observations, results show an average degree of well-being at work. In addition, we found that there is low identification of employees with the nature of work. Also, it lacks investment by the company to achieve the objectives of improving “well-being” in the work environment. Thus, we suggest (1) an investigation into the relationship between the nature of work and the vocation of employees; and (2) the creation of programs that emphasize the improvement of the quality of life.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar el nivel de “bienestar en el trabajo” de los empleados de una minorista de muebles y electrónica, visando, de forma complementaria, desarrollar propuestas de intervención y mejora para la empresa investigada. Para ello, se aplicó el Inventario de Bienestar en el Trabajo (IBET-13) a 11 colaboradores de la empresa. Mediante una investigación multinivel, que comprendió la aplicación de cuestionarios y observaciones sistemáticas, se encontraron resultados que muestran un grado medio de bienestar en el trabajo. Además, se encontró que existe una baja identificación de los empleados con la naturaleza del trabajo, así como una falta de inversión por parte de la empresa para lograr los objetivos de mejorar el “bienestar” en el ambiente de trabajo. Así, sugerimos (1) investigar la relación entre la naturaleza del trabajo y la vocación de los empleados; y (2) la creación de programas que enfaticen el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida del empleado.Na contemporaneidade, o “bem-estar no trabalho” tem sido uma das preocupações mais recorrentes da psicologia organizacional e dos profissionais da área de gestão de pessoas. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o nível de “bem-estar no trabalho” dos colaboradores de uma empresa varejista de móveis e eletroeletrônicos, visando, de modo complementar, desenvolver propostas de intervenção e melhoria para a empresa investigada. Para tanto, foi aplicado o Inventário de Bem-Estar no Trabalho (IBET-13) em 11 colaboradores da empresa. Por meio de uma pesquisa multinível, compreendendo a aplicação de questionários e observações sistemática, foram encontrados resultados que evidenciam um grau de bem-estar no trabalho mediano. Além disso, verificou-se que há baixa identificação dos colaboradores com a natureza do trabalho, bem como, escassez de investimentos da empresa em prol do alcance dos objetivos de aprimoramento do “bem-estar” no ambiente laboral.
