College members profile from Campus VIII of the State University of Paraíba: Teaching, research and extension

Resumo: The inseparable triad teaching, research and extension make up the pillars of the Brazilian university. The aim of this work was to evaluate the college members profile of State University of Paraiba (UEPB) Campus VIII. For this, extension and research notices were consulted, and also the curricula lattes from professors of Dentistry, Civil Engineering and Physics courses from Campus VIII. It was verified that the college members staff is composed by a minority of professors. They are mostly men, and are quite engaged in teaching, research and extension, and also in scientific dissemination of their work. Professors preferred to participate in extension projects, with a higher average of projects/professor (n=7.1 projects) in the Dentistry course. In relation to research, a higher average of projects was observed per professor (n=5.5 projects) in the Physics course. The scientific dissemination of Campus VIII is still deficient, with Dentistry professors presenting a higher prevalence of complete articles published in periodics, however, with low impact. Civil Engineering professors presented more papers published in annals of congresses, in relation to other courses, and physics professors are proportionally more connected to teaching in postgraduate courses. Despite being a recent Campus, there is still the need to open public notices to fill the great lack of the effective staff, mainly in Dentistry course from Campus VIII of UEPB.

El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el perfil docente del Campus VIII de La Universidade Estatal de Paraíba (UEPB). Para ello, consultamos los resultados de los avisos de extensión e investigación, además de los planes de estudios de lattes de los profesores eficaces de los cursos de Odontología, Ingeniería Civil y Física del Campus VIII. Se verificó que una minoría de profesores conforman el personal efectivo de los maestros. Se trata en su mayoría de hombres y, además de la enseñanza, se dedican a la investigación y la extensión y la difusión científica de sus obras. Se observó preferencia por la participación de los profesores en los avisos de extensión, con un promedio más alto de proyectos/profesor (proyectos n.o 7.1) en el curso de odontología. En relación con la iniciación científica, se observó un promedio más alto de proyectos/profesores (5,5 proyectos) en el curso de Física. La difusión científica del Campus VIII sigue siendo deficiente, con profesores de odontología presentando una mayor prevalencia de artículos completos publicados en revistas, sin embargo, con bajo impacto. Los profesores de Ingeniería Civil presentaron más trabajos publicados en anales de congresos, en relación con otros cursos, y los profesores de física están proporcionalmente más relacionados con la enseñanza en estudios de posgrado. A pesar de ser un campus reciente, sigue siendo necesario abrir avisos de licitación pública para cubrir la gran falta de personal efectivo, especialmente en el curso de odontología de UEPB Campus VIII.A tríade indissociável ensino, pesquisa e extensão compõe os pilares da universidade brasileira. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o perfil docente do Campus VIII da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB). Para isso, foram consultados resultados de editais de extensão e pesquisa, além dos currículos lattes dos docentes efetivos dos cursos de Odontologia, Engenharia Civil e Física, do Campus VIII. Foi verificado que uma minoria de docentes compõe o quadro efetivo de professores. Esses são, em sua maioria, homens e, além do ensino, se encontram engajados na pesquisa e extensão e na divulgação científica de seus trabalhos. Foi observada uma preferência pela participação de professores em editais de extensão, com maior média de projetos/professor (n=7,1 projetos) no curso de Odontologia. Já em relação à iniciação científica, foi observada maior média de projetos/professor (n=5,5 projetos) no curso de Física. A divulgação científica do Campus VIII ainda se apresenta deficitária, com os docentes de Odontologia apresentando maior prevalência de artigos completos publicados em periódicos, contudo, de baixo impacto. Docentes de Engenharia Civil apresentaram mais trabalhos publicados em anais de congressos, em relação aos demais cursos, e docentes de Física estão proporcionalmente mais relacionados à docência na pós-graduação.
