The game of method: board games as support for teaching research courses

Resumo: This article proposes a board game to support the teaching of the principles of scientific research. Its methodology involves literature review, game testing, and game design. Its objective is to define good practices for the use of these games (analog or digital) in the teaching of Scientific Methodology. The literature review identified some board games developed for this purpose: Snakes and Ladders, Defense of Hidgeon, The Game of Research and Cheats and Geeks. These games were evaluated through several game design and educational design categories, such as narrative, usability/interface, mechanics, gameplay, art/aesthetics, learning, sound, balance between entertainment/education and time to play. The article suggests good practices for the design of educational board games and presents the proposal of a board game for the teaching of scientific methodology.

Su objetivo es definir buenas prácticas para la producción y utilización de juegos de tablero (analógicos o digitales) en la disciplina Metodología Científica. La revisión de literatura identificó algunos juegos de tablero desarrollados con ese objetivo: Snakes and Ladders, Defense of Hidgeon, el juego de la investigación y los trucos y los geeks. A metodologia envolve revisão de literatura, avaliação de jogos e design de games. Seu objetivo é definir boas práticas para a produção e utilização de jogos de tabuleiro (analógicos ou digitais) na disciplina Metodologia Científica. A revisão de literatura identificou alguns jogos de tabuleiro desenvolvidos com esse objetivo: Snakes and Ladders, Defense of Hidgeon, The Game of Research e Cheats and Geeks. Esses jogos foram avaliados a partir de diversas categorias de design de games e design educacional, como: narrativa, usabilidade/interface, mecânica, gameplay, arte/estética, aprendizagem, som, balanceamento entre entretenimento/educação e tempo para jogar.
