Clinical and epidemiological profile of elderly people with HIV: A sample from the macro-region of Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais

Resumo: Introduction: Aging contributes to a greater susceptibility of the elderly to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), due to organic changes that occur at this stage of life and to the prolongation of sexual life. Objective: In this sense, this research aimed to evaluate the clinical and epidemiological profile of elderly people infected with HIV. Methodology: This is a documentary, retrospective study, which had 107 elderly individuals with HIV infection as subjects. The development site was the State Center for Specialized Care (CEAE), located in the city of Patos de Minas, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. For data collection, medical records were consulted, using a form containing sociodemographic, epidemiological and clinical information. Data were organized in Excel spreadsheets and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS – 14.0) software. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University Center of Patos de Minas (UNIPAM) under protocol number 3.169.404. Results: Most of the elderly were married, heterosexual, had an occasional sexual partner and did not use condoms; in addition, they had no history of other STIs or injecting drug use. Finally, the most prevalent comorbidities were systemic arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases and depression. Conclusion: The profile of elderly people with HIV infection in the interior of Minas Gerais was people with an average age of 64 years, predominantly male, with incomplete elementary education and retired.

Objetivo: En este sentido, esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el perfil clínico y epidemiológico de las personas mayores infectadas por el VIH. Metodología: Se trata de un estudio documental, retrospectivo, que tuvo como sujetos a 107 ancianos con infección por VIH. El sitio de desarrollo fue el Centro Estatal de Atención Especializada (CEAE), ubicado en la ciudad de Patos de Minas, en Minas Gerais, Brasil. Para la recolección de datos se consultaron historias clínicas, utilizando un formulario que contiene información sociodemográfica, epidemiológica y clínica. Los datos se organizaron en hojas de cálculo de Excel y se analizaron mediante el software Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS - 14.0). Esta investigación fue aprobada por el Comité de Ética en Investigación del Centro Universitario de Patos de Minas (UNIPAM) con el número de protocolo 3.169.404. Resultados: la mayoría de los ancianos eran casados, heterosexuales, tenían una pareja sexual ocasional y no usaban condones; Además, no tenían antecedentes de otras ITS o consumo de drogas inyectables. Finalmente, las comorbilidades más prevalentes fueron hipertensión arterial sistémica, dislipidemia, diabetes mellitus, enfermedades tiroideas y depresión. Conclusión: El perfil de las personas mayores con infección por VIH en el interior de Minas Gerais fue de personas con una edad promedio de 64 años, predominantemente del sexo masculino, con educación primaria incompleta y jubilados.Introdução: O envelhecimento contribui para uma maior susceptibilidade dos idosos às infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST’s), devido a modificações orgânicas que acontecem nessa fase da vida e ao prolongamento da vida sexual. Objetivo: Nesse sentido, a presente pesquisa objetivou avaliar o perfil clínico e epidemiológico de idosos infectados pelo HIV. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo documental, de caráter retrospectivo, que teve como sujeitos 107 idosos portadores da infecção pelo HIV. O local de desenvolvimento foi o Centro Estadual de Atenção Especializada (CEAE), localizado na cidade de Patos de Minas, em Minas Gerais, Brasil. Para a coleta dos dados, realizou-se consulta aos prontuários, utilizando-se de um formulário contendo informações sociodemográficas, epidemiológicas e clínicas. Os dados foram organizados em planilhas no Excel e analisado por meio do software Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS – 14.0). Resultados: A maioria dos idosos eram casados, heterossexuais, possuíam parceiro sexual eventual e não utilizavam preservativo; além disso, não possuíam história de outras IST’s ou de uso de drogas injetáveis. Por fim, as comorbidades mais prevalentes foram hipertensão arterial sistêmica, dislipidemia, diabetes mellitus, tireoidopatias e depressão.
