This article analyzes the history of children's literacy in Goiás, in the 20th century, between the years  1916 and 1925, understanding the methods for teaching reading and writing in primary schools in Goiás, which were indicated in educational legislations. The initial time frame is justified by the fact that 1916 was the year of the enactment of the first Goiás law that formalized, properly, a literacy method of analytical march, to be adopted in the state's educational institutions. As early as 1925, a regulation was enacted in which, unlike the legal provisions of the period, it was anchored in the adoption of the analytical method, but without specification. It is a documentary research, taking as its main source the educational legislation of the state of Goiás during the period. The analysis of the documentation suggests that there was a recommendation for the use of analytical methods of literacy, which were in line with the principles of the New School and which gave rise to a “modern school”, in line with the national movements for the schooling of children in the republican regime.
