Resumo: | This is a transversal and quantitative research, with the objective of knowing the mental health of UNIOESTE undergraduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the levels of symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and academic burnout, associating them with the levels of psychological well-being, life satisfaction and/or use of strategies for stress coping, besides identifying predictors for such symptoms. We applied a questionnaire with socio-demographic, academic and health variables, and about the impact of the pandemic of COVID-19, and 5 self-applied scales validated for use in Brazil: Depression Anxiety Stress Scale - Short Form (DASS-21), Oldenburg Burnout Inventory - Student Version (OLBI-S), Psychological Well-Being (PWB), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and BriefCOPE. Data collection occurred from September 14th to October 19th, 2020, by sending an e-mail to all undergraduate students enrolled in the 33 in-class courses at the five campuses of the university, containing an invitation to participate and a link to digitally access the survey. The convenience sample was composed of 1,224 undergraduates, being reduced in the study of academic burnout to 965 undergraduates who were in classes and filled out the respective scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed (significance level α=0.05), using Spearman correlation, Pearson chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests, as well as univariate and multivariate logistic analysis. Most of the sample was female (68.6%), between 18 and 24 years old (77.9%), single (88.4%), with family income from 1 to 3 minimum wages (52.5%), in remote classes (78.1%), and not in social isolation (57, 7%), besides presenting symptoms of stress (57.5%), anxiety (52.5%) and depression (60.5%), high scores in the 6 dimensions of psychological well-being (54.6% to 98.4%) and satisfaction with life (54.9%). Study (80.6%), mental health (66.7%) and social life (65.3%) were the aspects of life reported as most negatively affected by the pandemic crisis. Stress, anxiety and depression showed common significant correlations: negative with life satisfaction, 6 dimensions of psychological well-being and 3 adaptive copings (active coping, planning and positive reinterpretation); positive with 5 maladaptive copings (behavioral disengagement, denial, self-blame, self-distraction, substance use). We found 7 common predictors for symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression ("female sex," "age 18-24," "having chronic illness," lower scores on the self-acceptance and positive relationships with others dimensions of psychological well-being, higher use of the maladaptive copings substance abuse and selfblame). In the sample of 965 undergraduates, a high prevalence of academic burnout (76.7%), high exhaustion (83.4%) and high detachment (83.7%) were found. We found 4 predictors of academic burnout common to both females and males ("aspects of life negatively affected by the pandemic", "work beyond internship", higher use of avoidance coping, lower use of approach coping). The results indicated high prevalence of symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and academic burnout. The findings suggest that high scores of life satisfaction, dimensions of psychological well-being and use of adaptive coping strategies may have protective effects for stress, anxiety, and depression, and the use of approach coping may have a protective effect for academic burnout. |

Se aplicó cuestionario con variables sociodemográficas, académicas, de salud y sobre impactos de la pandemia de COVID-19, e 5 escalas autoaplicables validadas para uso en Brasil: Depression Anxiety Stress Scale - Short Form (DASS-21), Oldenburg Burnout Inventory - Student Version (OLBI-S), Psychological WellBeing (PWB), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) y BriefCOPE. La recogida de datos se produjo del 14 de septiembre al 19 de octubre de 2020, mediante el envío de e-mail a todos los estudiantes de grado matriculados en los 33 cursos presenciales de los 5 campus de la universidad. La muestra de conveniencia se compuso de 1.224 estudiantes universitarios, reduciéndose en el estudio del burnout académico a 965 estudiantes que asistían a clase y cumplimentaron la escala respectiva. Se realizaron estadísticas descriptivas e inferenciales, realizando pruebas de correlación de Spearman, chi-cuadrado de Pearson y Mann-Whitney, así como análisis logísticos univariantes y multivariantes. Mayoría de la muestra era mujer (68,6%), entre 18 y 24 años (77,9%), soltera (88,4%), con ingresos familiares de 1 a 3 salarios mínimos (52,5%), en clases alejadas (78,1%) y no estaba en aislamiento social (57,7%), además de presentar síntomas de estrés (57,5%), ansiedad (52,5%) y depresión (60,5%), puntuaciones altas en las 6 dimensiones de bienestar psicológico (54,6% a 98,4%) y satisfacción con la vida (54,9%). Estudios (80,6%), salud mental (66,7%) y convivencia social (65,3%) fueron los aspectos de la vida más negativamente afectados por la pandemia. Estrés, ansiedad y depresión mostraron correlaciones significativas comunes: negativas con satisfacción con la vida, 6 dimensiones del bienestar psicológico y 3 copings adaptativos; positivas con 5 copings desadaptativos. Hubo 7 predictores comunes de síntomas de estrés, ansiedad y depresión ("sexo femenino", "edad entre 18 y 24 años", "padecer una enfermedad crónica", puntuaciones más bajas en las dimensiones de autoaceptación y relaciones positivas con los demás del bienestar psicológico, mayor uso de coping desadaptativos abuso de sustancias y autoculpabilización). En la muestra de 965 estudiantes universitarios, había una alta prevalencia de burnout académico (76,7%), alto agotamiento (83,4%) y alto distanciamiento (83,7%). Se encontraron 4 predictores de burnout académico comunes a estudiantes de ambos sexos ("aspectos de la vida afectados negativamente por la pandemia", "trabajo más allá de las prácticas", mayor uso de coping de evitación, menor uso de coping de aproximación). Los resultados indicaron una elevada prevalencia de síntomas de estrés, ansiedad, depresión y burnout académico. Los resultados sugieren que las puntuaciones altas de satisfacción con la vida, las dimensiones del bienestar psicológico y el uso de coping adaptativos pueden presentar efectos protectores para el estrés, la ansiedad y la depresión, así como el uso del coping de aproximación puede tener un efecto protector para el burnout académico.Trata-se de pesquisa transversal e quantitativa, objetivando conhecer a saúde mental de graduandos da UNIOESTE durante a pandemia de COVID-19, a partir dos níveis de sintomas de estresse, ansiedade, depressão e burnout acadêmico, associando-os aos níveis de bemestar psicológico, satisfação com a vida e/ou uso de estratégias para enfrentamento do estresse (coping), além de identificar preditores para tais sintomas. A coleta dos dados ocorreu de 14 de setembro a 19 de outubro de 2020, por meio do envio de e-mail a todos os graduandos matriculados nos 33 cursos presenciais dos 5 campi da universidade, contendo convite para participação e link de acesso digital à pesquisa. A amostra de conveniência foi composta de 1.224 graduandos, sendo reduzida no estudo do burnout acadêmico para 965 graduandos que estavam em aulas e preencheram a respectiva escala. Realizou-se estatística descritiva e inferencial (nível de significância α=0,05), realizando testes de correlação de Spearman, qui-quadrado de Pearson e Mann-Whitney, além de análise logística univariada e multivariada. A maioria da amostra foi do sexo feminino (68,6%), entre 18 e 24 anos de idade (77,9%), solteira (88,4%), com renda familiar de 1 a 3 salários-mínimos (52,5%), em aulas remotas (78,1%) e não estava em isolamento social (57,7%), além de apresentar sintomas de estresse (57,5%), ansiedade (52,5%) e depressão (60,5%), altos escores nas 6 dimensões do bem-estar psicológico (54,6% a 98,4%) e satisfação com a vida (54,9%). Estudo (80,6%), saúde mental (66,7%) e convívio social (65,3%) foram os aspectos da vida referidos como mais afetados negativamente pela crise pandêmica. Estresse, ansiedade e depressão apresentaram correlações significativas comuns: negativas com satisfação com a vida, 6 dimensões do bem-estar psicológico e 3 copings adaptativos (coping ativo, planejar e reinterpretação positiva); positivas com 5 copings mal-adaptativos (desinvestimento comportamental, negação, autoculpabilização, autodistração, abuso de substâncias). Verificou-se 7 preditores comuns aos sintomas de estresse, ansiedade e depressão (“sexo feminino”, “idade 18-24 anos”, “ter doença crônica”, menores escores nas dimensões autoaceitação e relações positivas com os outros do bem-estar psicológico, maior uso dos copings mal-adaptativos abuso de substâncias e autoculpabilização). Na amostra dos 965 graduandos, verificou-se alta prevalência de burnout acadêmico (76,7%), alta exaustão (83,4%) e alto distanciamento (83,7%). Encontrou-se 4 preditores de burnout acadêmico comuns ao sexo feminino e masculino (“aspectos da vida afetados negativamente pela pandemia”, “trabalho além de estágio”, maior uso do coping evitação, menor uso do coping de aproximação). Os resultados indicaram alta prevalência de sintomas de estresse, ansiedade, depressão e burnout acadêmico. This is a transversal and quantitative research, with the objective of knowing the mental health of UNIOESTE undergraduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the levels of symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and academic burnout, associating them with the levels of psychological well-being, life satisfaction and/or use of strategies for stress coping, besides identifying predictors for such symptoms. We applied a questionnaire with socio-demographic, academic and health variables, and about the impact of the pandemic of COVID-19, and 5 self-applied scales validated for use in Brazil: Depression Anxiety Stress Scale - Short Form (DASS-21), Oldenburg Burnout Inventory - Student Version (OLBI-S), Psychological Well-Being (PWB), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and BriefCOPE. Data collection occurred from September 14th to October 19th, 2020, by sending an e-mail to all undergraduate students enrolled in the 33 in-class courses at the five campuses of the university, containing an invitation to participate and a link to digitally access the survey. The convenience sample was composed of 1,224 undergraduates, being reduced in the study of academic burnout to 965 undergraduates who were in classes and filled out the respective scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed (significance level α=0.05), using Spearman correlation, Pearson chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests, as well as univariate and multivariate logistic analysis. Most of the sample was female (68.6%), between 18 and 24 years old (77.9%), single (88.4%), with family income from 1 to 3 minimum wages (52.5%), in remote classes (78.1%), and not in social isolation (57, 7%), besides presenting symptoms of stress (57.5%), anxiety (52.5%) and depression (60.5%), high scores in the 6 dimensions of psychological well-being (54.6% to 98.4%) and satisfaction with life (54.9%). Study (80.6%), mental health (66.7%) and social life (65.3%) were the aspects of life reported as most negatively affected by the pandemic crisis. Stress, anxiety and depression showed common significant correlations: negative with life satisfaction, 6 dimensions of psychological well-being and 3 adaptive copings (active coping, planning and positive reinterpretation); positive with 5 maladaptive copings (behavioral disengagement, denial, self-blame, self-distraction, substance use). We found 7 common predictors for symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression ("female sex," "age 18-24," "having chronic illness," lower scores on the self-acceptance and positive relationships with others dimensions of psychological well-being, higher use of the maladaptive copings substance abuse and selfblame). In the sample of 965 undergraduates, a high prevalence of academic burnout (76.7%), high exhaustion (83.4%) and high detachment (83.7%) were found. We found 4 predictors of academic burnout common to both females and males ("aspects of life negatively affected by the pandemic", "work beyond internship", higher use of avoidance coping, lower use of approach coping). The results indicated high prevalence of symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and academic burnout. The findings suggest that high scores of life satisfaction, dimensions of psychological well-being and use of adaptive coping strategies may have protective effects for stress, anxiety, and depression, and the use of approach coping may have a protective effect for academic burnout. |
