Resumo: | Our article analyzes the textbook A Linda História de Meu País, by César Martinez, published in 1929. Our objective is to understand how the author sought to place São Paulo as the protagonist of national history and synonymous with the progress of Brazil. For this, he used symbols such as the bandeirantes, to defend the role of the paulistas in the construction of the nation; valued characters and historical facts of São Paulo, to the detriment of others traditionally exposed in school history; and, speaking of the present, he defended the state as the center of the nation's development. On the other hand, he stated that his book was geared towards patriotism and the valorization of nationality. We conclude that in the work there is a coexistence of two identities, regional and national, which the author sought, instead of polarizing them, to reconcile them so that São Paulo was seen as a conductor of nationality. |
