RESTAURANTS AND KIDS MENU: DETERMINING FACTORS OF THE CHOICES

Resumo: In the global context, marked by overweight and obesity in childhood, the problem of the consumption of meals and snacks out of home by children is of great importance. In Brazil, there are few studies tracing the food consumption of children out of home, the choices of the places and what will be eaten, and the nutritional quality of these meals. The present work aimed at evaluating the factors that influence the choice of establishments and children's menu in restaurants. The research was developed based on the cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach, using a convenience sample of 100 people, comprising 50 adults and 50 children, in the year 2020. Children below 7 years old and above 10 years old were excluded. The data survey was performed using online collection, using the form from Google Forms. The answers to the forms were automatically grouped and tabulated into a spreadsheet, also inside the Google structure. The choice of the kids menu was mostly performed by the adults, being 4% superior to the children's decision power. Child's preference was the main factor in the choice of the kids menu, followed by food quality. Hygiene and cleaning expressed the greatest relevance in the choice of the food establishment by the adults. The understanding of the Brazilian reality regarding infant feeding is a subject still little studied in Brazil, and further investments on research regarding this topic are necessary

No Brasil, poucos são os estudos que traçam o consumo alimentar de crianças fora do domicílio, as escolhas de locais e do que será consumido e a qualidade nutricional dessas refeições. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os fatores que influenciam na escolha dos estabelecimentos e do cardápio infantil nos restaurantes. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida com base no estudo de delineamento transversal com abordagem qualitativa, com a utilização de uma amostra de conveniência composta por 100 pessoas, sendo 50 adultos e 50 crianças, no ano de 2020. Foram excluídas crianças com idade inferior a 7 anos e superior a 10 anos. O levantamento de dados foi realizado com coleta on-line, utilizando o formulário do Google Forms. As respostas do formulário foram agrupadas e tabuladas automaticamente em uma planilha, também dentro da estrutura Google. A escolha do menu infantil foi majoritariamente dos adultos, sendo 4% superior ao poder de decisão das crianças. O gosto da criança foi o principal fator na escolha do menu infantil, seguido da qualidade do alimento. A Higiene e limpeza expressaram maior relevância na escolha do estabelecimento de alimentação pelos adultos.
