Teaching in the XXI century: personal and social aspects of teachers' well-being

Resumo: | The background research for this article had as its aim to understand the main personal and social factors that can contribute with the development of teachers' well-being, with teachers who work or worked for more than twenty years in elementary school. The research, of qualitative approach, was based on life stories of five teachers from state public network in Santa Catarina, suggested by scholar managers, from criteria, defined by Delphi method. The results pointed that a set of factors may influence the development of teachers' uneasiness or well-being. Such factorsmay be external (context), referring to the conditions of teaching practice, as well as internal, referring to the mode each subject reacts to problems and issues they face. Among external factors, it is possible to highlight the conditions of welcoming existing at school and the support from other social spheres. As for internal factors, it is possible to highlight the capacity of resilience, the use of strategies of coping and the orientations referring to Locus of Control (internal or external). we may conclude, thus, that teaching work can be a source of fullfillment, pleasure and joy. However, teachers, facing the complexity and imporntace of their work, besides the support of school and other social spheres, need the disposition and capacity of facing everyday challenges by eustrés and the use of strategies of coping to seek for solutions for challenges that are inherent to teaching profession. |

La investigación, de abordaje qualitativa, se basó en las anécdotas de histórias de vida de 5 profesoras de la red pública estadual de Santa Catarina, indicadas por gestores de escuelas, a partir de criterios, definidos por medio del método Delphi. Los resultados indican que un conjunto de factores puede influir en el desarrollo del malestar o del bienestar docente. Dichos factores pueden ser tanto externos (contexto), referidos a las condiciones del ejercicio de la docencia, como internos, referidos a cómo reacciona cada sujeto ante los problemas y situaciones que enfrenta. Entre los factores externos, se destacan las condiciones de acogimiento existentes en la escuela y el apoyo de otros ámbitos sociales. Entre los factores internos se destacan la capacidad de resiliencia, el uso de estrategias de afrontamiento y las orientaciones relacionadas con el Locus de Control (interno o externo). Se concluye de esta manera que, el trabajo docente puede ser sí, una fuente de realización, placer y alegría. Sin embargo, los profesores, en vista de la complejidad e importancia de su trabajo, además del apoyo de la escuela y de otras esferas sociales, se necesita disposición y capacidad para enfrentar los desafíos cotidianos por medio del “eustrés” y la utilización de estrategias de “coping” para buscar soluciones a los desafíos inerentes a la profesión docente.A pesquisa que embasou este trabalho teve como objetivo compreender os fatores pessoais e sociais que podem contribuir com o desenvolvimento do bem-estar docente, em professoras que atuam ou atuaram por mais de vinte anos no Ensino Fundamental. A pesquisa, de abordagem qualitativa, baseou-se nas histórias de vida de cinco professoras da rede pública estadual de Santa Catarina, indicadas por gestores escolares, a partir de critérios definidos por meio do método Delphi. Os resultados indicam que um conjunto de fatores pode influenciar o desenvolvimento do mal-estar ou do bem-estar docente. Tais fatores podem ser tanto de ordem externa (contexto), referente às condições do exercício da docência, quanto de ordem interna, referente ao modo como cada sujeito reage diante dos problemas e situações que enfrenta. Dentre os fatores externos, destacam-se as condições de acolhimento existentes na escola e o apoio de outras esferas sociais. Já entre os fatores internos, destacam-se a capacidade de resiliência, a utilização de estratégias de coping e as orientações referentes ao Locus de Controle (interno ou externo). Conclui-se, assim, que o trabalho docente pode ser, sim, uma fonte de realização, prazer e alegria.
