Resumo: The cine was born as an experiment to study movement and fulfilled a long-standing desire inserted in the human being's imagination: that of representing the real. However, it soon became a tool for storytelling, myth, fables, everyday life and fantasy. The cine sought in literature a support to establish itself as narrative art, and from then on, what were previously expressed in words gained representativeness on the screen. Thus, the various literary genres began to permeate cinematographic art and, thus, the mythology – that had already been transported to countless literary works – also began to be represented in cinema. But just as in literature, it is often camouflaged. Myths are considered inexhaustible sources of universal knowledge experienced by Humanity and that live in the collective unconscious to the present day. Therefore, this research has as its object the cinematographic production of the Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water (2017), and aims to analyze the female figure through the intertextual links that make up the work, giving greater emphasis on mythical contexts and symbols, in order to verify the survival of mythical narratives still present today. Understanding intertextuality as an inevitable dialogue between texts - in a broad definition of text - the proposal of this study is built on the identification of the intertextual links present in the film The Shape of Water (2017), by the filmmaker and screenwriter Guillermo del Toro.

Understanding intertextuality as an inevitable dialogue between texts - in a broad definition of text - the proposal of this study is built on the identification of the intertextual links present in the film The Shape of Water (2017), by the filmmaker and screenwriter Guillermo del Toro.O cinema nasceu como um experimento de estudo do movimento e atendeu a um desejo há muito tempo inserido no imaginário do ser humano: o de representar o real.
