Research in the Professional Master's Degree has shown its proximity to reality to propose alternatives and solutions. There are few investigations that seek to understand how the research methodologies adopted in Professional Masters are configured. Therefore, this article aims to analyze how action research was used in relation to instruments, methodological processes and the theoretical approach in dissertations of Professional Masters in Education. The nature of the research was qualitative, descriptive and exploratory, with a theoretical approach based on bibliographic and documentary research. The results show that the instruments used in the research favored the collective registration. As for theoretical approaches and methodological procedures, there was a need for them to be described in a more grounded way. It is concluded that the dynamics created in action research mobilized other actions related to the formation of study groups, and integrated projects among teachers.
