Resumo: | The aim of this paper is to analyse descriptively in a brief way eleven extracts of Gilbert Keith Chesterton’s The Invisible Man short story translated by Carlos Ancêde Nougué and Lúcia Santaella, based on Van den Broeck and Toury’s theories which considered metaphorical expression analysis from its context. The methodology for the translation analysis is supported by Lambert & Gorp’s proposed scheme. The main aim of this article is to observe the translational practice which should take into consideration conditional social and cultural factors in order to reach the target-culture reader making sense to the translated text as well as bringing back the ‘original’ masterpiece published in Europe in 1914 to Brazil in 1997 and 2006 plenty of target-reader’s social and cultural features and also the source reader’s. O presente trabalho realiza uma breve análise descritiva acerca de onze excertos do conto “The Invisible Man” de Gilbert Keith Chesterton traduzido pelos brasileiros Carlos Ancêde Nougué e Lúcia Santaella, com foco na receptividade emocional e / ou intelectual dos leitores brasileiros e nas estratégias de tradução, sob a luz teórica de Van den Broeck e Toury que consideram que a análise da expressão metafórica deve ser feita pelo contexto. A metodologia para análise da tradução é embasada no método proposto por Lambert & Gorp. O objetivo é atentar à prática tradutória que deve considerar fatores socioculturais condicionantes para alcançar o leitor da cultura-alvo, proporcionando sentido ao texto traduzido e trazendo a obra “original” publicada na Europa em 1914 ao Brasil dos anos de 1997 e de 2006 com marcas socioculturais do leitor-alvo e assim como do leitor-fonte.
