Resumo: This essay focuses on the bodily changes, practices which alter the appearance, shape, or body functions, which consist of actions taken over the body voluntary, with more or less precise goals and specific hazards known. Initially mentions alchemy and metamorphosis, similar phenomena also present in the literature. It also presents the various forms of man relates to body. In this context, includes the changes that reproduce the canonical standards of beauty, reinforces practice standards of appearance and fitness ideology conveyed by the mass culture, and the surprises that seem to be "out of order"of things and do "something appear or reappear That the experience of embodiment, is of the order of the stranger. "Thus, the bodily changes continue to convenes a resumption of the subject to the human community and what it does to the body indicates the intention to post your entry in the social environment.

Faz menção inicialmente à metamorfose e à alquimia, fenômenos similares presentes também na literatura. Apresenta ainda as diversas formas do homem se relacionar com o corpo.
