Resumo: The context of this research comes from the intersection between Communication and Education. On the side of Communication, it is emphasized the presence of the image as a visual representation, composing several different languages. By means of the ecological nature of their construction, the images establish social and natural correspondences, which favors perceived interactions also within the educational environment. Thereby, it is made the interface with Education. Considering the fact the textbook be among the media responsible for propagating messages involving otherness, was interested in understanding the treatment of the "other" inscribed on their visual representations. If they favored the construction of environments that could provide the coexistence or otherwise. Generally, the many ‘others’ are positioned by heterogeneity and do not attain a xenophobic conduct, that is, solidarity and cordiality predominate.

De la comunicación, destacamos la presencia de la imagen como una representación visual, eso compone diferenciadas lenguajes. Por el carácter ecológico de su construcción, las imágenes establecen correspondencia sociales y naturales, lo que también favorece las interacciones en el ambiente educativo. Por lo tanto, se hace la interfaz con la educación. Teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que el libro texto puede ser uno de los medios responsables de la propagación de los mensajes relacionados con la alteridad, nos interesa compreender el tratamiento del "otro", inscrito en sus representaciones visuales. Si favorecieron la construcción de ambientes que podrían proporcionar la convivencia o de otra manera. De manera general, los muchos "otros" que se presentan en este material didáctico se han posicionado a la proximidad de matices que la clasificación de la forma de ser uno con el otro proporciona. La solidaridad es, en definitiva, la modalidad que prevalece.Este artigo apresenta resultados de pesquisa empreendida sob os auspícios da FAPESP, cujo contexto vem da interseção entre Comunicação e Educação. Considerando o fato de o livro didático estar entre os meios responsáveis por propagar mensagens que envolvam a alteridade, com foco em representações visuais, interessava-nos compreender o tratamento dado ao outro e, em que medida, se tal tratamento favorece a construção de ambientes que propiciam a coexistência das diferenças, ou o contrário. De modo geral, os muitos outros que se apresentaram no material didático selecionado – Livros Didáticos, para as séries finais do Ensino Fundamental das disciplinas escolares –, posicionaram-se com as nuances de proximidade que a classificação do modo de estar com o outro propiciam.
