Conflict mediation in schools: between norms and teachers ’ perceptions

Resumo: | This article is based on data obtained from a study intended to analyze the government program called Sistema de Proteção Escolar [School Protection System], implemented by the State Secretary of Education in 2010. The current analysis proposes to understand the perceptions of Community Teacher Mediators regarding situations of conflict and violence in their schools. The data show a tendency toward increasing levels of conflict and violence in the school context, mainly with problems caused by students, according to the interviewees. This scenario maybe credited to students’ resistance to the professionals’ attitudes and the pedagogical practices occurring therein, juxtaposed to the authority socially attributed to the teachers and educational status. |

Este artículo se reporta a datos que se obtuvieron en una investigación que se propuso a analizar el programa de gobierno denominado Sistema de Protección Escolar, implementado por la Secretaría de Estado de Educación desde 2010. El enfoque aquí analizado tiene el propósito de comprender las percepciones de Profesores Mediadores Comunitarios sobre situaciones de conflicto y violencia em las escuelas en las que actúan. Los datos indican una tendencia de ampliación de los niveles de conflicto y violencia en el contexto escolar, con predominio de problemas provocados por los alumnos, según la visión de los entrevistados. Este escenario se puede deber a la resistencia de los alumnos a las conductas de los profesionales y a las prácticas pedagógicas que se llevan a cabo y se contraponen a la autoridad atribuida socialmente a los docentes y al prestigio de la escolaridad. Cet article réfère à des données obtenues dans une investigation qui envisage analyser le programme de gouvernement nommé Sistema de Proteção Escolar [Système de Protection Scolaire], mis en place par la Secretaria de Estado da Educação depuis 2010. L’aspect ici analysé a pour but de comprendre les perceptions des Enseignants Médiateurs Communautaires des situations de conflit et de violence dans les écoles où ils agissent. Les données indiquent une tendance d’accroissement des niveaux de conflit et de violence dans le contexte scolaire, avec prépondérance de problèmes provoqués par les élèves, du point de vue des interviewés. Ce scénario peut être attribué à la résistance des élèves aux conduites des professionnels et des pratiques pédagogiques entamées sur place, em contraposition à l’autorité attribuée socialement aux enseignants et au prestige de la scolarité. Este artigo se reporta a dados obtidos em investigação que se propôs a analisar o programa de governo denominado Sistema de Proteção Escolar, implementado pela Secretaria de Estado da Educação desde 2010. O foco ora analisado tem como propósito compreender as percepções de Professores Mediadores Comunitários sobre situações de conflito e violência nas escolas onde atuam. Os dados indicam uma tendência de ampliação dos níveis de conflito e violência no contexto escolar, com predominância de problemas provocados por alunos, na visão dos entrevistados.
