Resumo: | The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEI) regarding their potential to add academic knowledge to business students in 2012 and 2015. The study was divided in two stages: in the first one, the multiple regression technique was applied to control students’ personal factors. In the second, Data Envelopment Analysis decomposition was used in two components: one is related to the student’s performance and the other to HEIs efficiency. The results show higher performance of public HEIs, from both the students and institutions point of view. Nevertheless, private HEIs show potentiality to reduce the discrepancy. There was also productivity increase between the years evaluated for both public and private institutions. |

Para ello, el trabajo se divide en dos etapas: en la primera parte, se aplica la técnica de regresión múltiple para el control de los factores personales de los alumnos. En la segunda etapa, se utiliza la descomposición del Análisis Envolvente de Datos en dos componentes: el uno relativo al desempeño del alumno, y el otro relacionado con la eficiencia de las IES. Los resultados señalan un desempeño superior de las IES públicas, tanto desde el punto de vista de los alumnos como de las instituciones. Sin embargo, las IES privadas tienen potencial para reducir las disparidades. Se observa también un aumento de productividad entre los años evaluados para ambos tipos de institución.O objetivo do estudo é avaliar a eficiência das instituições de ensino superior (IES) públicas e privadas em relação ao seu potencial de agregar conhecimento acadêmico aos alunos de Administração em 2012 e 2015. Para tanto, o trabalho divide-se em duas etapas: na primeira, aplica-se a técnica de regressão múltipla para o controle dos fatores pessoais dos alunos; e, na segunda, utiliza-se a decomposição da análise envoltória de dados em dois componentes – um relativo ao desempenho do aluno e outro relacionado à eficiência das IES. Os resultados indicam que as IES públicas apresentam desempenho superior, tanto do ponto de vista dos alunos quanto das instituições. Ainda assim, IES privadas apresentam potencial para a redução das disparidades.
