Resumo: It aims to study the impact of state-regulated civilian firearms on Brazilian society, with a focus on a critical analysis of their relationship with violence rates. Given this objective, it was necessary to support data and empirical studies throughout the text, in order to allow a reflexive debate based on research and statistics. Having said this, we have chosen a comprehensive introductory approach which, in order to situate the reader in the subject, demonstrates the international context and its relationship with arms in different realities. After this moment, the main theme of this work emerges, which is established around disarmament in Brazil. In this sense, we first present a presentation of its historical evolution in the weapons scene, with an explanation of the main points of the Disarmament Statute and the reaction of the population to the changes that have occurred. Finally, it looks at Brazil in its recent trajectory, with a look at the rates of violence and its relationship with firearms in recent years.

Posto isso, optou-se por um caminho introdutório abrangente, o qual, com o objetivo de situar o leitor no assunto, demonstra o contexto internacional e sua relação com as armas em realidades distintas. Após esse momento, surge a pauta principal desse trabalho, que se estabelece em torno do desarmamento no Brasil. Nesse sentido, tem-se primeiramente uma apresentação de sua evolução histórica no cenário das armas, com uma explicação dos pontos principais do Estatuto do Desarmamento e da reação da população frente às mudanças ocorridas.
