Scientific and technological literacy as a Principle to form citizens

Resumo: This study aims to reflect upon forming citizens based on the approach of Scientific and Technological Literacy (STL). The starting point of this research was the broad understanding of STL, which has become a challenge in Basic Education, in that schools need to transcend the traditional and bookish education still being practiced in the school curriculums. Regarding its methodological procedures, it is a bibliographic research with a qualitative approach. Articles focusing on this topic where selected in specialized digital journals. Analysis of the articles collected indicate that the STL actions, used concomitantly with other human skills, may contribute to students’ development, by promoting their autonomy and critical awareness.

Para desenvolver esta pesquisa, partiu-se da compreensão ampliada da ACT, que se constitui um desafio na educação básica, na medida em que a escola precisa superar a formação tradicional e livresca ainda presente nos currículos escolares. Quanto aos procedimentos metodológicos, trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, de abordagem qualitativa. Em revistas digitais especializadas, foram selecionados artigos que tratam sobre a temática em questão.
