Resumo: The objective of this research is to describe the institute of general repercussion, introduced into law by Constitutional Amendment 45/2004, focusing on their use for improving the adjudication by the Federal Supreme Court. The work will address the appropriateness of assumptions and requirements for the admissibility of the Extraordinary Apeal. In turn, so that one can understand the overall impact will be analyzed their concept and origin in Brazilian law. To understand the importance of the institute in the effectiveness of adjudication will also be described in the paper about the issue of the Supreme Court. Finally, the existing statistics will be commented on the overall impact and the impact of the trial of a case of great importance
