This work has as its central focus examining the value and the role of the making of African Kente cloth as an alternative for the teaching and learning of mathematics in public schools contributing to the transformation of the formal space of the mathematics classroom into an area in which culture is interconnected with scholarly knowledge. The question that permeates this research may be described as: how can African culture, represented here by the making of African Kente looms,contribute to the processes of teaching and learning in a mathematics classroom? Two paths have been taken to collect data and facts in this research: oral interviews and the experience of 30 days in Africa in various regions of Ghana (Accra, Volta Region, Bonwire, Kumasi). The data wascollected from informal conversations with the weavers of these regions. Ethnomathematics, according to the theory of D Ambrosio, forms the fundamental basis for my ideas and elaborations in this educational research and also guides my look forward to the expertise of the weavers of Ghana to provide answers to the research question and, furthermore, to propose some activities for the classroom
