Resumo: American missionaries and educators were founders of Methodistschools and churches in Brazil, between the second half of thenineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century;they had as mission the establishment of Protestant civilization,habits and customs in any country chosen as field for sowing theWord of God. In addition, the Methodist civilizing project plannedto reach the soul of children through a magazine aimed at them:the Bem-te-vi Magazine. The purpose of this article is tounderstand the construction and dissemination of child imageprinted on the pages of the Magazine. The results obtained showthe Methodist plans to establish a civilized childhood and thepractices undertaken in this direction.

Además de la fundación de loscolegios, el proyecto civilizatorio metodista preveía alcanzar elalma de los niños, por medio de la creación de una revista dirigidaa ellos, la Revista Bem-te-vi. Este trabajo tiene por objetivocomprender la construcción y la difusión de la imagen del niñoimpresa en las páginas de la Revista. Los resultados alcanzadosmuestran los planes metodistas para establecer una infanciacivilizada y las prácticas emprendidas en esta dirección.Os missionários e educadores norte-americanos, fundadores de igrejas e de escolas metodistas no Brasil, entre a segunda metade do século XIX e as primeiras décadas do século XX, apresentavam como missão a implantação da civilização, dos hábitos e dos costumes protestantes no país escolhido como campo para semeadura da Palavra de Deus.
