Internal sociology of STS Brazilian education: an essay on social networks

Science, Technology and Society (STS) is a social and scientific field that seeks to interpret science and technology as social constructions, promoting a multidirectional model between these three spheres. Back from the first precursors in the field, one of its main concerns has been the internal dynamics of the scientific community, which in this work, we call internal sociology. Following this perspective, in this research we seek to map out part of the Brazilian STS education research field in order to identify the most relevant theoretical references for Brazilian researchers, while establishing which institutions (interest groups) are more devoted to these references, since curricular choices are intimately linked to the conceptions of the dominant groups. By using Social Network Analysis as a descriptive research methodology, we identify the work of Santos and Mortimer (2002) and Auler and Delizoicov (2006) as highly relevant to Brazilian STS education, and then we highlight the national institutions more connected to these works through quotation analyses.
