Language and Connections in the Teaching and Learning Mathematics

Resumo: | This article is based on a dialogue between two master's theses, Vallilo (2018) and Silva (2018), considering the themes of language and mathematical connections. The purpose of this article is to show how language helps students to express what they know and what they have learned, so that the teacher proposes problems that allow connections between the areas of Mathematics. The comprehension of mathematical and maternal language, with the connections between the different areas of Mathematics are highlighted items in this study for the analysis of student learning. This union between these studies, language and connections, are discussed in this article through three activities that was worked on elementary school, one them involving fraction, and two involving areas and perimeter of flat figures. It is concluded that Mathematics exists through the unions between its differences branches and the language has been joining these topics that we call Arithmetic, Geometry and Algebra. |

Este artículo se basa en un diálogo entre dos tesis de maestría, Vallilo (2018) y Silva (2018), considerando los temas del lenguaje y las conexiones matemáticas. El propósito de este artículo es mostrar cómo el lenguaje ayuda a los estudiantes a expresar lo que saben y lo que han aprendido, para que el profesor proponga problemas que permitan conexiones entre las áreas de las Matemáticas. La comprensión del lenguaje matemático y materno, con las conexiones entre las diferentes áreas de la Matemática se destacan en este estudio para el análisis del aprendizaje de los estudiantes. La unión entre estos estudios, lenguaje y conexiones se discute en este artículo a través de tres actividades trabajadas en la escuela primaria, una de ellas involucrando fracciones, y dos involucrando áreas y perímetro de figuras planas. Se concluye que la Matemática existe a través de las uniones entre sus diferentes ramas y el lenguaje ha ido uniendo estos tópicos que llamamos Aritmética, Geometría y Álgebra.Este artigo tem como base um diálogo entre duas dissertações de mestrado: Vallilo (2018) e Silva (2018), considerando os temas linguagem e conexões matemáticas. O objetivo deste artigo é evidenciar como a linguagem ajuda o aluno a expressar o que sabe e o que aprendeu, de forma que o professor proponha problemas que possibilitem conexões entre as áreas da Matemática. A compreensão da linguagem, matemática e materna, com as conexões entre as diferentes áreas da Matemática são itens de destaque neste estudo para análise do aprendizado do aluno. Essa união entre esses estudos, linguagem e conexões, é discutida neste artigo por meio de três atividades trabalhadas na educação básica, uma envolvendo fração, e duas envolvendo áreas e perímetro de figuras planas.
