Para que haja a inclusão adequada da pessoa surda na sociedade, faz-se necessário que os espaços nos quais ela conviva e frequente estejam devidamente preparados para recebê-la. Em muitos casos, as pessoas surdas necessitam de um meio para ter acesso a ambientes que proporcionem a comunicação com pessoas ouvintes. Com a regulamentação da LIBRAS, a presença do profissional Tradutor e Intérprete de LIBRAS torna-se essencial para promoção e mediação para comunicação entre as pessoas surdas. Por ser uma recém-profissão regulamentada no Brasil, muitas questões éticas sobre o perfil desse profissional precisam ser definidas. A metodologia utilizada, tratando-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, teve como instrumentos de pesquisa, aplicação de um questionário, respondido por quatro profissionais intérpretes, que atuam em diversos contextos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar características sobre a formação deste profissional, traçando o perfil da função desempenhada, bem como, das áreas em que atua. Dos resultados obtidos foi possível concluir que uma das principais características identificadas pelos intérpretes é que são mediadores de comunicação, e que possuem formação profissional diferentes de suas áreas de atuação.The deaf people have their own language, natural of deaf communities, which is the sign language; in Brazil it is called Brazilian Sign Language - BSL. To have the appropriate inclusion of deaf people in society, it is necessary that the spaces in which they coexist and attend are properly prepared to receive them. In many cases, deaf people need a way to access environments that provide communication with listeners. With the regulation of BSL, the presence of a professional translator and interpreter of the BSL becomes essential for promotion and mediation of communication between deaf people. Being a newly regulated profession in Brazil, many ethical questions about the profile of this professional need to be defined. The methodology used in the case of qualitative research was to survey instruments, a questionnaire answered by four professional interpreters, who works in different contexts. The aim of this study was to identify characteristics of the formation of this professional, forming the profile of the function performed, as well as the areas in which they operate.
