Problem-based Learning, Statistics Education and Education Distance: a theoretical study on possible convergences in Higher Education

Resumo: This work presents aspects of the applicability of Problem-Based Learning method (PBL) along with the concept of Statistics Education (EE), which can be applied in isolated disciplines in higher education, in the form of Distance Education (DE). Opposing the model of knowledge based on mathematical formulations and expressing a quantitative relationship named positivist, our research consider the man in the specific condition of the subject. In this sense the objective is to describe possible convergences between the principles of PBL, EE and distance education using the Community model of Inquiry (COI). It is expected to contribute with reflections on the Problem-Based Learning method of Statistics Education and Distance Learning focused on student learning and teaching practice as well as in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Higher Education.

Este trabalho apresenta aspectos da aplicabilidade do método Problem-Based Learning (PBL) aliado ao conceito de Educação Estatística (EE), o qual poderá ser aplicado em disciplinas isoladas no Ensino Superior, na modalidade de Educação a Distância (EaD). Opondo-se ao modelo de conhecimento baseado em formulações matemáticas e exprimindo uma relação quantitativa denominada positivista, nossa investigação leva em consideração o homem na condição específica de sujeito. Neste sentido objetiva-se descrever possíveis convergências entre os princípios do PBL, da EE e da EaD utilizando o modelo de Comunidade de Inquirição (COI). Espera-se contribuir com reflexões a respeito do método Problem-Based Learning, da Educação Estatística e da Educação a Distância com foco na aprendizagem dos alunos e na prática docente, bem como no uso das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TICs) no Ensino Superior.
