Resumo: | This article is based on the conviction that there is an intrinsic relationship between education and democracy and shows, based on official data, how, in Brazil, access to education, in particular, to the highest levels of education with guaranteed learning, is a right denied to many Brazilians. More than that, it is denied, particularly to those children, young people and adults belonging to the poorest families, or who live in the countryside, or who belong to the black population, conditions that normally combine in the same person. The text also problematizes the notion that more education, any form of education, is enough, or that it is enough to increase the average schooling of the population for the country to take the dreamed step towards a substantive, inclusive democracy, immune to coups. Only a broad perspective of education, which goes beyond mere preparation for standardized tests, the dispute for the highest IDEB, an education from a Freirean perspective, can make a difference in the formation of the people of a country. Finally, it discusses the appropriate management model and the demand for resources for a quality public education from a democratic perspective. |

Más aún, se niega, particularmente a aquellos niños, jóvenes y adultos pertenecientes a las familias más pobres, o que viven en el campo, o que integran la población negra, condiciones que normalmente se conjugan en una misma persona. El texto también problematiza la noción de que basta más educación, cualquier forma de educación, o que basta con aumentar la escolaridad media de la población para que el país dé el paso soñado hacia una democracia sustantiva, incluyente e inmune a los golpes. Sólo una mirada amplia de la educación, que vaya más allá de la mera preparación para las pruebas estandarizadas, la disputa por el máximo IDEB, una educación desde una perspectiva freireana, puede marcar la diferencia en la formación de las personas de un país. Finalmente, se discute el modelo de gestión adecuado y la demanda de recursos para una educación pública de calidad desde una perspectiva democrática.Este artigo parte da convicção de que há uma relação intrínseca entre educação e democracia e mostra, com base em dados oficiais, como, no Brasil, o acesso à educação, em especial, aos níveis mais elevados do ensino com garantia de aprendizagem, é um direito negado a muitos brasileiros. Mais do que isso, ele é negado, particularmente àquelas crianças, jovens e adultos pertencentes às famílias mais pobres, ou que vivem no campo, ou que compõem a população negra, condições que, normalmente se agregam numa mesma pessoa. O texto também problematiza a noção de que basta mais educação, qualquer uma, ou de que basta ampliar a escolaridade média da população para o país dar o sonhado passo rumo a uma democracia substantiva, inclusiva e imune a golpes. Somente uma perspectiva ampla de educação, que vá além da mera preparação para os testes padronizados, da disputa pelo maior IDEB, uma educação de perspectiva freiriana, pode fazer a diferença na formação do povo de um país.
