Resumo: The following article discusses the relation between children’s motor activities and their understanding of our world. For children motor activity is a way to understand the world. Taking this assumption as a starting point the article focuses on anthropological ideas that intend to explain how the understanding of our world through motor activity can be a vital part of the basic education of human beings. The relations between motor activity and development, perception and motor activity are being discussed. These are illustrated by giving an example that explains the symbolic meaning of motor activities. Funke-Wieneke (1997) have defined four functions of movement which support the physical development of children. Based on these functions themes demanding motor activity are introduced and staged and thus support children to understand our world through motor activity.

Department of Physical Education - State University of Maringá (UEM), Maringá-PR, Brazil2012-01-04info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionNarrative ReviewRevisão Narrativaapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/12323Journal of Physical Education; Vol 22 No 4 (2011); 487-496Journal of Physical Education; Vol. 22 Núm. 4 (2011); 487-496Journal of Physical Education; v. 22 n. 4 (2011); 487-4962448-2455reponame:Journal of Physical Education (Maringá)instname:Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)instacron:UEMporenghttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/12323/8649https://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/12323/751375148932Hildebrandt-Stramann, Reinerinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-10T15:38:06Zoai:periodicos.uem.br/ojs:article/12323Revistahttp://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/indexPUBhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.php||revdef@uem.br2448-24552448-2455opendoar:2023-01-10T15:38:06Journal of Physical Education (Maringá) - Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)false
