The developmental approach of school physical education – 20 years: a personal view

Resumo: The book “Educação física escolar: Fundamentos de uma abordagem desenvolvimentista” was published in 1988. This essay brings a reflective thinking on the twenty years of this book from a discussion of the context in which it was done and on its theoretical foundations. Bearing in mind the nature of development and regarding the view of this process in the periods before and after the book, a set of arguments are put forward to highlight the limits and possibilities of the ideas born out of the book as an effort to constitute the physical education in schools.
