Resumo: The paper is the result of an empiric research and of theoretical reflections based on the concept of cultural capital from Pierre Bourdieu (1966, 1979, 2011), but it also dialogs with other authors. The objective is to deepen the constitutive elements of the cultural capital from the sociocultural and economic conditions of pedagogy students. Empirically, the paper is supported in data from a semi-open questionnaire applied, in 2015, with 427 students of pedagogy in an institution of higher education at the north of “Rio Grande do Sul”. The paper problematizes the concept of cultural capital and its relations with the economic and the social capital; analyzes some empirical data of the research and concludes reaffirming the thesis about the low cultural capital predominating among the students, which translates into difficulties in studying and in a limited cultural formation to deal with the emerging challenges in the complex school and social contexts.   Keywords: Cultural capital. Pedagogy students.El artículo es resultado de una investigación empírica y de reflexiones teóricas basadas en el concepto de capital cultural de Pierre Bourdieu (1966, 1979, 2011), pero dialoga también con otros autores. Se objetiva profundizar los elementos constitutivos del capital cultural a partir de las condiciones socioculturales y económicas de estudiantes de la pedagogía. Empíricamente, el artículo se apoya en datos de un cuestionario semiabierto aplicado, en 2015, con 427 alumnos de pedagogía en una institución de educación superior al norte de Rio Grande del Sur. El artículo problematiza el concepto capital cultural y sus relaciones con el capital económico y el social; analiza algunos datos empíricos de la investigación y concluye reafirmando la tesis de que predomina entre los alumnos un bajo capital cultural que se traduce en dificultades en los estudios y en una formación cultural limitada para dar cuenta de los grandes desafíos emergentes en los complejos contextos escolares y sociales.   Palabras clave: Capital cultural.
