Being More: coherence between life and Paulo Freire’s concept

Resumo: | In this text, the coherence between the theoretical construction of the concept of Being More with the actions taken throughout Freire’s life, which may justify the repercussion of his work is discussed. The study started from the analysis of 12 interviews with Paulo Freire from 1992 to 1997, available at Paulo Freire Collection. After the analysis, it was identified nine characteristics of Being More, namely: self-awareness; awareness of the world; hope; dealing with difference – learning who I am; being and humility; cultural identity; being political – non-neutrality; and dream. It is noted that there is a coherence between the theorization of the Being More concept and the historical, unfinished, limited being that never betrayed his/her dreams. Freire has always denounced the exploitative and unjust society and proposed the liberating education that announces a more democratic and inclusive society. An education in which Being More is the goal of all students and educators. Keywords: Liberating education. Being more. Paulo Freire. |

El estudio partió del análisis de 12 entrevistas con Paulo Freire de 1992 a 1997, disponibles en el Acervo Paulo Freire. Después del análisis, fueron identificadas nueve características de Ser Más, son ellas: autoconciencia; conciencia del mundo; esperanza; lidiar con la diferencia – aprender quién soy yo; estar siendo y humildad; identidad cultural; ser político – no neutralidad; y sueño. Se nota que hay una coherencia entre la teorización del concepto Ser Más y el ser histórico, inacabado y limitado que nunca traicionó sus sueños. Freire siempre ha denunciado a la sociedad explotadora e injusta, y propuso la educación liberadora que anuncia una sociedad más democrática e inclusiva. Una educación en la que Ser Más es el objetivo de todos los estudiantes y educadores. Palabras clave: Educación liberadora. Ser más. Após as análises, foram identificadas nove características do Ser Mais, são elas: consciência de si; consciência do mundo; esperança, lidar com a diferença – aprender quem eu sou; estar sendo e humildade; identidade cultural; ser político – não neutralidade; e sonho. Nota-se que há uma coerência entre a teorização do conceito Ser Mais e o ser histórico, inacabado, limitado, que nunca traiu seus sonhos. Freire sempre denunciou a sociedade exploradora e injusta e propôs a educação libertadora que anuncia uma sociedade mais democrática e inclusiva.
